Role in Educating Australians
The Australian guide to healthy eating is the newest guide for Australians. It is suitable for all different cultures and it gives information to the people about what to eat to be healthy. Besides telling the people what to eat it also tells people how much of every food to eat. It is a food system that has been based on scientific philosophy. This guideline has also been accepted by the dietary guidelines for Australians and the recommended dietary intake for
Australians. This is taught in schools all over Australia as it teaches students what to eat and what not to eat that way they can be healthy and teach others to be healthy.

How My Meal Fits
Think that three coarse meal does fit into The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating as I had pasta that fits in to the breads, cereals, rice, pasta and noodles group. The mince meat fits into the lean meats, fish, poultry, eggs, nuts and legumes group. The tomato sauce, lettuce and cucumber fits into the vegetables and legumes group. The fruit salad fits into the fruit group and the ice-cream fits into the milk, yoghurt and cheese group. My meal was served with water, which The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating suggests that you should drink plenty of. As I have at least one food from each of the five-food groups in my meal I think that my meal does fit into The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating food model.
Nutritional Content of My Meal
I think that this meals nutritional content is okay but there are some things that could be improved. Eleven percent of the fat comes from the mince meat. To avoid this fat I could have had a plain tomato sauce but that would mean that we wouldn't have a food from the lean meats, fish/ poultry, eggs/ nuts and legumes group. The fruits that I had chosen for the fruit salad don't have a lot of fat so that is good. I could have picked fruits that had lots of fats like avocadoes. The sauce is not cooked in a fattening way it is just cooked with a little bit of oil. The pasta is boiled in water so that is not fattening either. All of the fruits from the fruit salad are also uncooked.
Preparation for the family
The sauce can be cooked the night before and then heated up the next night, this saves 30 minutes of cooking time. The fruit can be cut up that morning as long as lemon juice is squeezed over the top of it or that night, as it does not take long to do. The pasta takes 10-15 minutes to cook. This can be done while the sauce is heating. This meal can be prepared within 30-45 minutes. There are no special skills that are needed to cook this meal, as it is very basic.
Page 4 / Appeal to the Family
This meal is a mixture of colours. The green from the pasta and the red from thee sauce is appealing as it is not one colour. The fruit salad is very appealing because of the different fruits used there are many colours. Both of these dished have a mixture of flavours that are sweet from the fruit salad and a rich tomato taste from the pasta. The sauce smells like fresh tomatoes and the fruit salad smells tropical. I think that these smells are appealing to the average family as they both smell fresh and not like some greasy take-away food.
