THE SUSQUEHANNA YACHT CLUB is hosting the Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup on Lake Clarke with some Fall leaf color expected for enhanced beauty.

In conjunction with this regatta there is a grand Oktoberfest Party complete with German food and beverages (beer) and, of course live music!!. So polish up your polka as well as your boat and come to the mighty Susquehanna.

The regatta is to be held on Lake Clarke part of Susquehanna River just south of Route 30 between York and Lancaster.

The yacht club’s address is 1730 Long Level Road, Wrightsville PA, 17368.

Launching will be by hoists. There is also a ramp available at the SYC Riverside location. NOTE the club has 2 lots, one with a barn and just south of that by 100 yards, the Drysail area with hoists, clubhouse and pavilion.

We will do our best to accommodate requests for housing. Camping is also available.

These races will be governed by the “rules” as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing. The races are open to Lightnings.

The entry fee is $95,this includes three tickets to the Oktoberfest, breakfast bagels and one lunch of PPJ and fruit. Please register or sign up at “Who’s Coming” before October 7th. to ensure adequate supply of beer and other essentials.

SCHEDULE:

FRIDAY, October 10th:

You may arrive Friday, setup, and go sailing. The clubhouse will be open from 1500 hrs.

Saturday, October 11th:

0900 -1100 Registration

1100 Competitors meetingand 1st race start at about Noon

Dinner begins at 1830
Sunday, October 12th:

0915- 0930Photo Shoot – come to the docks and help with a group photo that will be used by various Susquehanna Tourism groups. I promise, if there’s wind this will be a quick Shoot.

RULES:

The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association and the Sailing Instructions (SIs) provided at the Regatta and the Class Rules.

Sailors may also carry a handheld VHF radio aboard. The race committee may announce their intentions to start a race on the radio. The race committee may also announce the sail numbers of OCS boats, although possibly after a significant delay.

All RRS changes will be published in the SIs. However, expected rule changes include

  • RRS, Appendix A2 will be modified as follows: all races scored unless 6 or more official races scored in which case a single throw out will be granted.
  • 1 race constitutes a regatta.
  • All races will be run with a time limit for the first boat to finish and a time window for the last boat to finish. Specific time limits will be published in the Sailing Instructions.
