The XI Festival of Detective Films and Television Programs on Law-Enforcement Themes “DetectiveFEST” presents the film program “Soviet Detective Films: the Unknown” (the creator – Alexander Shpagin).

The program will take place from the 16th to the 18th of March in the Small Hall of the Central House of Cinematographers.

The program will re-discover several detective films of the Soviet era, which were not noticed and didn’t even receive any credit after their release, probably because most of them were well in advance of their time. For example, the film “Ten Steps to the East” goes back to the avant-garde traditions of the twenties of the XX century, complete with somnambular metaphysics, and “The Eastern Passage” demonstrates a pacifistic and alienated views on war – which was absolutely untypical for the Soviet film industry of the sixties. Other films were just too controversial and too “un-Soviet” in their depiction of the reality – and they were ignored. But all this makes re-discovering of these films even more interesting.
