The Woman’s Century Club connects Seattle-area women interested in learning about women’s history, and provides a place of connection and inspiration for women of all generations and walks of life. We seek to honor the graces of the past while investing in the young women of the future.
The club was founded in Seattle in 1891 by suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt and other female pathbreakers, including Seattle’s first woman superintendent of schools and the first woman to graduate in law from Yale. You can learn more about the club and our history at
Each year we award a scholarship, as well as a one-year membership in the club, to an outstanding student who exemplifies the traditions of female leadership and service that were important to our club's founders. The scholarship is for $2,000 this year.
To apply for the scholarship, you must be a female U.S. citizen in your junior year at a fully accredited Seattle-area college or university, with high scholastic ability as well as financial need. Please submit the following documents:
- The one-page application that follows.
- A currently dated letter of recommendation from an individual who can tell us about your motivation for pursuing your stated career goal, through your academic choices, volunteer work, employment, etc. (May be a professor, counselor, employer, volunteer supervisor, or the like; please have them include their email address and phone number.)
- Your most recent grade transcript (can be a copy, not an official transcript).
