My name is Maria. I am a 3rd year student from North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov, Saint-Petersburg, Russia. I havegot a chance to havesummer practice in a pretty Hungarian city - Pecs. Thank you for this opportunity! I had practices in Anesthesiology and Intensive care departments. I did not have one major tutorbut I had a new one each week. I had a choice to stay in the operation theatre (with anesthesiology’s team) or in the intensive care department. I have got skills of reanimation, diagnostics, and methods of treatment. For example, Dr. Jakso Krisztian explained oxygen therapy in the intensive care department and types of shock, ECG, Dr. Andrea explained types of tubes for intubation in operation theatre.
Every morning we had visits and my tutors were giving me some information about each case. I was also invited to many interesting operations like X-Ray technologyoperation, skin transplantation, trauma surgery after crash injury. Doctor’s high level of English, new and modernhospitalwith good equipment should be mentioned andclinic staff was very kind to me.
Social program was very interesting and exciting. Sometimes I did not have enough time for rest. We had several exciting activities such as hiking, walking tour, badminton, cycling tour in Orfu, bbq party, tasting of national food, wine tasting trip, night board games and lots of other events. I wish to express my appreciation to my contact person (buddy) Gergo Csaba. He solved all our questions before the trip, picked up from Budapest by his car, asked about our hobbies and we want to do, organized a lot of activities and spent a lot of time with us, bought tickets to FINA championship, also he picked us up to go to the bus on the last day.
Also, we triedthe new educational system, which is called "Neptun" and it was the first time for international students. I had registered before my trip and printed my Matriculation card in Saint-Petersburg. So, I have got my Hugarian ID card at the first week. It was really good innovation, because many sales allowed only for Hungarian students or students from Europe Union. (bus tickets, tickets to museums etc.) with good sale or free.
The accommodation was good. We lived in PTE-Szanto Kollegium. The dorm was new and clean. We lived on the ground floor and there it was colder than outside. It was good because July was very hot. But there was a playground in front of our window and it was very loud outside. We lived far away from other students (they lived on the 4th floor) so it was difficult to communicate with them.
The food was interesting and cheap in the canteen, but if menu wasn't good for my taste Icould take another one for the same price in the other places. Special thanks to our CP because he showed us other places where we could havea meal at a low price.
Also Iwant to thank the international department for the opportunity to have this amazing month, warm welcome, my tutors, other CPs (Asaad Sadi, Katalin Fekete and Chika Watanabe). You made my summer unforgettable!
