You and your classmates are beginning a new game. The “Colonial Challenge” is designed to help you learn and study the content from chapter 3 and 4 in your history textbook. You will work with a group of students to learn the required content, make questions for your assigned colonies and participate in the game.

The winning group receives 100% for this assignment

Colonial Challenge Plan

Day 1 and 2: Make notes for all colonies. Share responsibility. Have individuals or pairs, write notes and summaries of each of the bullets for all of the colonial groups. You must study the southern, New England and Middle Colonies in order to do well in the game.

Day 3 and 4: Make question cards for your colonies. You need 3 questions per bullet. Rank them worth 10, 20, and 30 points. Make them understandable and simple to answer. Be sure the level of difficulty increases with the point value.

Day 5: Review your notes from all colonies.

Day 6: Colonial Challenge Game

Colonial Challenge Grades:

  1. You will complete the assigned question and answer cards for your group.
  2. The winning team will receive 100% on their game performance grade. The other teams will complete the self-evaluation form and score their own knowledge and effort during class time.

Colonial Challenge Game

Step 1. Groups rearrange room, putting chairs in back, then sitting on floor.

Step 2. Explain Rules of the game.

  • The cards have been made and submitted.
  • The Categories are listed on the board.
  • I need a designated score keeper/assistant.
  • Randomly, I will select a group to go first.
  • I will then randomly select a player who will then choose a category and point total.
  • If they answer the question correctly, they receive the points and I choose another player on their team to go next.
  • If they answer incorrectly; the rest of the team gets 1 minute to come up with the answer for the points, but they do not get another turn.
  • A team continues answering until an individual misses, or they get 3 in a row. After three in a row, I go to the next group.
  • Behavior during the game will also count on group project grade.
  • The winning team receives an A on the project grade.
  • The losers may or may not based on performance and behavior.
  • The Game Ends with 5 minutes left in class or when the teacher decides.
  • The host may change rules and procedures as needed.
