Engaging Focus

Ask students to brainstorm what they think the five most important inventions are in their life. Get a few samples and see if there are common elements in all their answers. Ask them to imagine what life would be like without these items. Tell the students that today’s lesson is about the inventions that changed the course of history.

Experience

Show the Video Stream clip on the Industrial Revolution. Distribute the Winds of Change student activity sheet. Have the students read the Expert Information and complete the activity attached to the student page. Discuss the answers to the activity with the students.

Synthesis

In their Interactive Notebook, have students create and illustrate an invention they would like to see made. Write a short paragraph describing the item.
