The Western Group Names Bruce Carswell Vice President of Operations

Ogden, Utah - The Western Group of Ogden, Utah, a railroad industry consortium, welcomes Bruce Carswell as Vice President of Operations. Most recently Carswell served as Vice President Permian Basin Logistics for Permian Basin Railways in Lubbock, TX, an Iowa Pacific Holdings (IPH) Company. He brings over 30 years of railroad knowledge to the position.

“Carswell brings great strength and exceptional experience to this role” says Dave Durbano, owner and CEO of Western Group. “He oversaw an unprecedented expansion of business as the Energy Revolution firmly took hold in West Texas and eastern New Mexico.” Bruce managed the IPH shortlines in the area through a five- to six-fold growth in traffic, as well as the construction of multiple new customer facilities. “His knowledge of car movement, track maintenance, customer relationships and management style will be a valuable asset for the Western Group,” added Durbano.

Facing unprecedented growth opportunities, Carswell looks forward to working with the Western Group team to ensure the Company is positioned to handle growth safely and productively. “I believe my unique experience can also assist in helping us achieve world-class safety and customer service while, at the same time, building our railroads for the bright future ahead of us,” said Bruce. “Railroads are ultimately a service organization and the unique nature of the markets we serve dictate that we be flexible in our approach to providing that service, something that larger railroads often cannot accomplish as well as shortlines can. I am looking forward to bringing my years of experience to the Western Group to assist in meeting the exciting challenges ahead. ”

Durbano says that Carswell will begin the transition into his new role during the third quarter of this year and will officially start as the new vice president December 1, 2014. He will continue to reside in Lubbock, Texas.
