JOB DESCRIPTION
Post:Speech and Language Therapist (SLT)
(Maternity cover -approx. 9 months from Sept 2017)
Hours: 24 hours per week, 39 weeks per year term time
Salary:Salary range £26,041 - £34,875 pro rata
Line Manager:Team Lead for Therapy Services.

Purpose of Job:
To provide SLT to children and young people as a part of a holistic curriculum.
Key tasks:
Work collaboratively with the Team Lead for Therapy Servicesin facilitating high professional standards of SLT service at the WESC Foundation.
Take professional lead for the SLT provision for those learners assigned to you and oversee the work of enablers assigned to you.
Deliver SLTprogrammes throughout the extended curriculum.
Provide leadership, management, development and support to Enablers in Therapy, Nurse Team, Care and Education.
Maintain and develop standards of the SLT service atWESC Foundation.
Represent SLT in planning meetings.
Roles and responsibilities:
Lead and attend meetings as required both on and off site.
Complete assessment on prospective learners and those commencing at the WESC Foundation or as part of the transition process. Review these assessments as circumstances change.
Take responsibility for the delivery, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of a high standard of SLT which promotes the independence, communication, health and care of learners.
Complete the above for additional duties which could be off campus as apart of new initiatives of WESC Foundation.
Ensure all learners have high quality programmes of SLTwhich are shared with parents and all supporting workers at the WESC Foundation within a holistic framework.
Review all programmes annually or as circumstances change.
Provide high quality training forEnablers to ensure SLT is an integral part of the learners’ day.
Have current HCPC registration and comply with CPD requirements using guidance from The Royal College of SLT.
Quality assure SLT provision and contribute to the Learner Service Improvement Plan to raise standards of SLT.
Keep abreast of new developments and trends in order to raise standards.
Maintain recordsin accordance with the RoyalCollege of SLTandWESC Foundation.
Write ITPs (Individual Therapy Priorities) and evaluate them termly.
Write the appropriate section of the Annual Review /Annual Report documents.
Write the appropriate sections of the young persons’ Care Plan, Risk Assessment and other documentation as necessary.
Complete analysis of SLT provision for development of the service.
Take responsibility or the lead for designated tasks or new initiatives.
Risk manage SLT sessions.
Ensuring specialist equipment is used safely and withdrawn from use if unsafe or inappropriate for the young person.
To liaise with external professionals relating to the needs of the young person.
To attend external meetings to promote the wellbeing of the young person.
To support the day to day management of the work of the specialist SLT assistant

- All staff will attend or deliver appropriate CPD/training sessions either in the employer’s or their own time. Some posts require mandatory training and this must be complete within the stated timescale

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Therapists
Factors / Essential / DesirableQualifications: / Recognised national therapy qualification e.g. Speech and Language Therapy to Diploma or Degree level as a minimum
Registration with HCPC
Evidence of CPD / Additional qualifications and experience related to the specific therapy e.g. Sensory Integration, Makatonand Dysphagia etc.
Experience and Knowledge: / Experience of Multi-professional working
Knowledge of Augmentative, Alternative Communication strategies to meet speech and language and communication needs / Experience of working in an educational/health environment
Experience of sensory impairment/VI
Knowledge of Safeguarding
Experience of delivering training
Experience of working in specialist education
Skills and Ability: / Remain updated with professional practice and new research
Ability to reflect on practice independently and with peers
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to work/lead both with individuals and groups/classes
Ability to work in a collaborative way with the team
Competent IT skills
