Event Specialist

We are a regional volunteer center whose mission is to build vibrant communities through service. The Volunteer Center prides itself on developing beneficial relationships with local nonprofits and helping them to develop customizable creative marketing appeals online to recruit volunteers. We also try to assist individual volunteers and volunteer groups to find opportunities that fit their unique needs.

The event specialist intern will be responsible for all phases of event planning for our own events, as well as representing the Center at various community events. Examples would be Murphy Spring Festival on May 5. The intern in this position needs to be able to work with many different kinds of people and be able to adapt to a lot of different situations.

INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO:

•Real world knowledge of working with volunteers, nonprofits, county Chambers

•Hands on strategizing and planning

•Participation in regular staff meetings

•Several online systems

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Research and participate in different community events, festivals, meetings.

•Assist in brainstorming and idea planning for marketing and training

•Utilize online software such as Eventbrite, Facebook, Salesforce and VOLY

•Help host volunteer appreciation events

•Assist with training events

QUALIFICATIONS:

•Marketing, advertising/PR, communications, telecommunications, advertising major

•Must be motivated, organized, articulate and possess good writing skills

•Must be comfortable working for and representing a religious nonprofit

•Must be an upstanding citizen

•Must be available to work some weekends and evenings

•Must have reliable transportation

SCHEDULE and COMPENSATION:

•10 hours per week around intern‘s schedule during the academic year; up to 40 hours per week during the summer

•Sign off on academic credit for hours

•Meals when available on campus
