STATE ACHIEVEMENT TESTING – NEXT WEEK

It is extremely important that students be in attendance during State Achievement Testing. These state required assessments are scheduled as follows:

GARAWAY EDUCATION FOUNDATION WELCOMES

THE MAGIC OF THE RICK SMITH, JR. SHOW

Come enjoy magician, illusionist and world record card thrower Rick Smith, Jr. on Saturday,April 20th at 7:00 pm in the Garaway High School Gymnasium. The doors open at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $5.00 (cash only please) and can be purchased at Park Street Pizza or at any Garaway School. Tickets for the show will also be available at the door.

This year you can also purchase tickets for dinner. The dinner will be served in the high school cafeteria from 5:30-6:30 and will include 2 slices of Park Street pepperoni pizza, side salad, cookie, and drink. Dinner tickets can also be purchased for an additional $5.00 (pre-sale only until Wednesday, April 17). All proceeds benefit the Garaway Education Foundation.

ALL SCHOOL PANORAMIC PICTURE

An all school panoramic picture will be taken of all school staff and students on Monday, April22nd. Information is being sent home and pictures will be available for purchase to anyone interested.

IMPORTANT COMMUNITY MEETING AT MILLER AVENUE SCHOOL

All parents and community members are encouraged to attend an important informational meeting at Miller Avenue Elemntary School on Thursday, May 2nd at 7:00 p.m. Garaway Schools Superintendent Teresa Alberts will be sharing information about the future of the Garaway School
District.

MILLER AVE. SCHOOL YEARBOOKS HAVE ARRIVED – SOME EXTRAS AVAILABLE

This year’s edition of the Miller Avenue School Yearbook has arrived. If you would still like to purchase a copy of the yearbook, please contact the school office. All Miller Avenue students and staff are featured in the yearbook through class individual pictures, class group pictures, and candid pictures of many school events and activities. Orders may be submitted to the school office with payment of the cost for the yearbook, which is $18.00. Checks can be made out to Miller Avenue School. There are a limited amount of extrayearbooks and will be sold on a first come-first served basis.

STUDENT COUNCIL SPONSORED RAFFLE – FRIDAY, APRIL 26TH

Miller Avenue School’s Student Council will be sponsoring a “Themed Basket” Raffle to be held on Friday, April 26th to help support the Accelerated Reader Program’s Auction which will be held at the end of the school year. Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 will each be bringing in items to fill their baskets. 4th Grade’s Theme is “Think Spring”, 5th Grade’s Theme is “School Days”, and 6th Grade’s Theme is “Night at the Movies”.

Items can be brought to the school between now and Friday, April 19thwhen the baskets will be completed. We encourage everyone to participate because the better the baskets, the better the Accelerated Reader Auction will be!

Tickets will be sold to all Grades (K-6) each day from Monday,April 22nd to Friday, April 26th. Tickets will sell for 25 cents or 5 for $1.00.

ACCELERATED READER AUCTION –DONATIONS ACCEPTED

We are accepting donations for an auction at school to support the Accelerated Reader reading program for students. Accelerated Reader has helped improve our students’ reading, and the auction is a way to motivate and encourage our students to read. Each student can accumulate points that are used to purchase items at the auction. The more they read, the more points they can receive. If you would like to make a monetary donation or a donation of items that students might purchase at the auction, please call Miller Avenue School (330) 852-2441. The auction will take place in May.

FRIDAY, MAY 3 TRACK & FIELD DAY – GRADES 5 & 6

Track & Field Day for all Garaway 5th & 6th Grade students will be held on Friday, May 3rd. The students will be transported by bus to the Garaway High School football field to compete in a variety of track & field events. Parents are welcome to attend.

DRESS CODE REMINDERS

Now that spring is here, students are permitted to wear shorts to school. Just a reminder that as stated in the student handbook, “Shorts must be worn at a length that is decent and in good taste with the length being at least mid-thigh.” Also, “Proper footwear is required at all times. Flip-flops are not permitted. Sandals must have heel straps.”

LUNCH & MILK MONEY ENVELOPES

Just a reminder that the end of the school year is fast approaching and with field trips scheduled it would be better to NOT pay too far in advance. It is difficult to reimburse lunch money once it has already been deposited. We will be issuing a credit slip at the end of the month to those students who have paid in advance to let you know where you stand. If you have any questions, please call Tina @ (330) 852-2441.
