OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

with full responsibility for UR4Driving for ex-offenders

We are seeking an Operations Director to oversee the activities of The Upper Room which is a charity helping the socially disadvantaged. We work with homeless people, economic migrants and ex-offenders to improve their lives and conditions. We provide meals 5 days a week, specialist employment support services and a driving school for ex-offenders. This is a charity with a Christian ethos, helping peopleto improve their lives and conditions by building self-esteem, giving assistance with paperwork, language difficulties etc in an effort to create opportunities and help our guests to become economically independent. The Operations Director will be in charge of all staff with full responsibility for the management of UR4Driving.

Job DescriptionDuties will include the following:

  • Management of UR4Driving, ensuring ex-offenders are supervised and supported.
  • Line Manager to two Project Managers, UR administrator, UR4Driving administrator, fundraiser and finance officer: experience required in recruitment, conducting appraisals, encouraging development and ideas, dealing with under performance etc.
  • Monitoring and measuring the success of each project and setting targets for Project Managers.
  • Implementation of a Business plan and ensuring quality accreditation is gained as required, i.e. PQASSO.
  • Working with fundraiser on applications for grants and funding – ensuring outcomes achieved.
  • Responsibility for overseeing the overall budget of the charity and for the day-to-day budgets of the driving project and of the main/core.
  • Public speaking at various venues, including churches and schools to raise awareness and funds for the charity.
  • Overall responsibility for all staff and volunteers.
  • Responsible for the production of annual report, newsletters, brochures etc.
  • Regular liaison with the Board, to define goals to plan future strategies and to implement them as agreed with the board.
  • Ensure policies are in place, regularly reviewed and implemented.

Qualifications

RequiredEducated to degree level.

Business management skills.

Experience

RequiredPrevious experience of managing staff essential, strong leadership capabilities.

Experience of working with and understanding of how to motivate ex offenders.

Working with vulnerable/disadvantaged people.

Managing budgets.

Experience required of writing funding applications and monitoring & evaluation reports.

Knowledge of business management.

Public speaking.

Knowledge of and established contacts with homeless services/providers.

Skills requiredExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Understanding of issues, problems and finding solutions.

Good team leader.

Competent IT skills.

SalaryAccording to ability and experience: £42,000-45,000, plus pension contribution.

Hours of work5 days per week, 35-40 hours, flexibility required

Annual leave5.6 weeks pro-rata per annum inclusive of public holidays.
