The UK of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles. The B.I. consist of two large islands Great Britain and Ireland and about 5000 small islands. The total area is over 244,000 square kilometers.

G.B. consists of England, Scotland and Wales. The UK is the official name of the state. The capital of the UK is London.

The B.I. are separated from the European continent by the North Sea and the English Channel.

The north of Scotland is mountainous and is called the Highlands. The south has beautiful valleys and plains and it is called the Lowlands.

Mountains in G.B. are not very high. Ben Nevis in Scotland is the highest mountain (1343 m.)

There are many rivers in G.B. but they are not very long. The Severn is the longest river, the Thames is the deepest one.

The mountains the Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of Gulf Steam influence the climate of the B.I. It is mild the whole year round.

The population of the U.K. is over 57 million.

The U.K. is a constitutional monarchy. In low the Head of the State is the Queen. In practice the Queen reigns but doesn't rule. The country is ruled by the elected government with the Prime Minister at the head. The British parliament consists of two houses: the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

There are three main political parties in G.B.: the Labour, the Conservative and the Liberal parties.

The main rivers of the USA are the Mississippi, the Colorado,theColumbia, the Saint Lawrence River and the Hudson River.

The USA has several climatic regions. The coldest regions are in the north and north-west where much snow falls in winter. The south has a subtropical climate. The climate along the Pacific Ocean coast is warmer than that of the Atlantic coast.

The population of the USA is over 236 million people.

The capital of the USA is Washington in the District of Columbia (D.C.)

The USA is a federal republic consisting of 50 states.

The Head of State is the President. Congress consist of two houses the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The main political parties are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.

There are over two million rivers in Russia. The biggest river is the Volga. The world's deepest lake is LakeBaikal. The water in the lake is very clear.

Russia has various types of climate, from arctic in the north to subtropical in the south.

Russia is a parliamentary republic. The Head of the State is the President. The capital of Russia is Moscow.
