Theater QuickStart Guide

Learn Now courses

A Learn Now Course enables you to proceed through a Course at your own pace. These Courses combine the latest advances in learning theory with state-of-the-art Internet technology to deliver the following:

  • Easy-to-comprehend content created by expert instructional designers.
  • Professional voice-overs, 3-D animations, graphics, and on-screen text.
  • Real-world, hands-on labs.
  • “Visual sentences” that explain complex concepts.
  • Flexible navigation with advanced search capabilities.
  • Anytime, anywhere accessibility.

Skills Practice

Each Learner’s information technology or desktop skills Course includes Hands-On Labs. With Hands-On Labs you can:

  • Get hands-on experience in a perfectly simulated environment.
  • Experience real-world scenarios in an environment that won't affect real-world systems.
  • Use your troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve problems.
  • Access labs 24 x 7, during class and beyond.

Using Hands-On Labs, you'll get the real-world experienceand knowledge retention.

LabWare can appear either within a Learn Now Course, an Expert Now Course, or independently.

Assessments

Assessments can appear either within a Learn Now Course, or independently. Assessment types include the following:

Pretests - Measure your understanding of Course content before you access the Course. Your Training Administrator may enable you to skip content you successfully master. Pretest scores are recorded in LMS.
Posttests - Measure your understanding of Course content after you have taken the Course. Posttest scores are recorded in LMS.
Practice tests - Enable you to test your understanding of Course content at any time. Practice test scores are not recorded in LMS. Practice tests are typically used when preparing for certification.

Viewing the Course Outline

The Course Outline is a map that lists all the pages and objects within the Course. Within the Course Outline, you can click on an object to jump directly to it.

To view the Course Outline:

  1. In Theater, click the Course Outline button .

The Course Outline pane displays.

  1. In the Course Outline pane, use the scroll bar to scroll up and down through the items.
  2. Click on a component in the outline to jump to that section.
  3. To close the Course Outline, click the Close button.

Navigating Through Courses

At the bottom of the Theater, you can use the navigation buttons to move through your Courseware.

To navigate through Courses

  • Click to move to the previous Course component.
  • Click to repeat the audio and visual components of the current Course content.
  • Click to pause the visual or audio components.
  • Click to automatically progress through the Course.
  • Click to advance to the next Course component.

Accessing Course Options

You can access various options by clicking on icons in the lower left corner of your window. Not all options are available for every Course.

Notebook

You can click the Notebook button to open the Notebook pane, which you can use to take notes during Courses.

To use the Notebook

  1. In Theater, click the Notebook button .

The notebook appears.

  1. In the Notebook pane, enter your notes regarding the course.
  2. Click Save Note when finished.
  3. To close the Notebook pane, click the Close button.

Glossary

If a Course was set up to include a glossary, you can view the key terms and definitions specific to the Course.

To use the Glossary

  1. In Theater, click the Glossary button .

The Glossary pane displays.

  1. In the Glossary pane, use the scroll bar to scroll up and down through the glossary items.
  2. To close the Glossary pane, click the Close button .

Global Resources

You can access Global Resources at any time throughout the duration of a Course by clicking the Resources button.

To access Global Resources in Theater

  1. In Theater, click the Resources button .

The Resources pane displays.

  1. In the Resources pane, select the resource you want to view.
  2. When you click a resource, a new browser opens and displays the resource.
  3. To close the resource pane, click the Close button .

Player Options

You can set options within a course to customize your learning experience. The options you can turn on and off include audio, text captioning, personal learning mode, and autoplay.

To specify the player options

  1. In Theater, click the Options button.

The Options pane displays.

  1. In the Options pane, you have the following options that you can select:

Audio:

  • Click On to play the audio portions of the Course.
  • Click Off to prevent the audio portions of the Course from playing.

Text Captioning:

  • Click On to display a text version of the Course’s audio.
  • Click Off to turn off text captioning.

Personal Learning Mode:

  • Click On to enable Personal Learning Mode.

Personal learning mode skips content from which you have tested out, and displays the tested out content as grayed-out content buttons. However, you can still access tested out content. To test out of content, you must successfully answer the associated pretest question. Pretests may or may not be available, depending on the configuration of your system.

  • Click Off to enable Complete Learning Mode.

Complete Learning mode shows you all content within the Course, whether or not you have tested out. If you have not tested out of material, or do not have the option of testing out of content, your content pages will display only Complete Learning mode.

Autoplay Button:

  • Click Show to have the Autoplay button appear in the Theater.

When enabled, you can click the Autoplay button to automatically progress through Courses.

  • Click Hide to hide the Autoplay button.

Tool Tips

You can enable tool tips for particular features of the Theater interface.

To enable Tool Tips

  1. In Theater, click thebutton to enable tool tips.
  1. Click the button again to disable tool tips.

Exiting Theater

To exit Theater

  1. To exit the Theater,click the Exit button .
  1. When prompted to exit the Course, click OK.
