In our office it’s a good to start planning for the end of year. Make any big purchase and donate any old office equipment. Schedule your holiday staff celebrations. Open your appointment schedulers for 2014. Make sure you have your OSHA and Hipaa training completed for the year. Make sure you are ready for any coding changes the will take effect. And the most important thing to do is RSVP for our October conference. I am getting so excited! I hope to see everyone there! Don’t forget to bring your donations for the troops and dress in red, white and blue!

See you all in October.

Sincerely,

Julie Williams, State OMA President

We have a meeting scheduled for November 15th with Stephen Burt on Social Media in the Workforce. Mr. Burt is with Healthcare Compliance Resources, he does our HIPAA and OSHA training yearly. Our membership has increased; people seem to be getting more interested in our meetings and the importance of knowing what is going on with Medicare and other insurances.

Respectfully,

Diana Walker,

Beckley Chapter, President

Charleston Chapter

The September Meeting was held at the Fifth Quarter and we had 20 members and guests in attendance on September 18 to hear and ask questions of Compliance Expert Robert Liles who was in Charleston conducting the Certified Medical Compliance Officer Coursehosted by the WVSMA. See his bio below and check out his website at . It is very informative.

Robert W. Liles, JD, MBA, MHA, was the first National Health Care Fraud Coordinator and subsequently worked as Deputy Director of the U.S. Department of Justice, Executive Office for United States Attorneys. As Managing Member in the Washington D.C. based office of Liles Parker, PLLC, Robert heads one of the nation’s leading law firms focused on healthcare fraud defense and regulatory matters representing providers in civil, criminal, and administrative proceedings. Robert’s background, education, and experience in the field bring this class to life with a real-world perspective.

Our October Meeting will be replaced by the State OMA meeting at Canaan Valley.

The Charleston Chapter Board had a planning meeting and we have great programs planned for the next several months. As speakers are confirmed we will do an email blast with dates and times of meetings to come.

We held a meeting on Sept 12th with Barbara Good speaking. Her topic was Interviewing 101: Getting the Best Employee Every Time. She spoke about the age gaps we may be seeing in our offices and how to get the best out of our employees with the different generations working together. We also did an interactive interview scenarios that was a lot of fun and educational at the same time. It gave us a chance to interact with our members which we do not always have the time to do if we have a speaker.
