13:3 And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, "Behold, the sower went out to sow; 13:4 and as he sowed, some {seeds} fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up. 13:5 "Others fell on the rocky places, where they did not have much soil; and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of soil. 13:6 "But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 13:7 "Others fell amongF290 the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked them out.13:8 "And others fell on the good soil and *yielded a crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.13:9 "He who has ears, letF291 him hear."

13:18 "Hear then the parable of the sower.13:19 "When anyone hears the wordF296 of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil {one} comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.13:20 "The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 13:21 yet he has no {firm} root in himself, but is {only} temporary, and when affliction or persecution arises because of the word,F297 immediately he fallsF298 away. 13:22 "And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the worldF299 and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.13:23 "And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty."

13:18 "Hear then the parable of the sower.13:19 When any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart; this is what was sown along the path.13:20 As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 13:21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.13:22 As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.13:23 As for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the word and understands it; he indeed bears fruit, and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty." / 13:3 He told many stories such as this one: "A farmer went out to plant some seed.13:4 As he scattered it across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them.13:5 Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The plants sprang up quickly, 13:6 but they soon wilted beneath the hot sun and died because the roots had no nourishment in the shallow soil.13:7 Other seeds fell among thorns that shot up and choked out the tender blades.13:8 But some seeds fell on fertile soil and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted. 13:9 Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand!"

13:18 "Now here is the explanation of the story I told about the farmer sowing grain: 13:19 The seed that fell on the hard path represents those who hear the Good News about the Kingdom and don't understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches the seed away from their hearts. 13:20 The rocky soil represents those who hear the message and receive it with joy.13:21 But like young plants in such soil, their roots don't go very deep. At first they get along fine, but they wilt as soon as they have problems or are persecuted because they believe the word.13:22 The thorny ground represents those who hear and accept the Good News, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the cares of this life and the lure of wealth, so no crop is produced.13:23 The good soil represents the hearts of those who truly accept God's message and produce a huge harvest: thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted." / 13:3He used parables to tell them many things. "Once there was a man who went out to sow grain. 13:4 As he scattered the seed in the field, some of it fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.13:5 Some of it fell on rocky ground, where there was little soil. The seeds soon sprouted, because the soil wasn't deep.13:6 But when the sun came up, it burned the young plants; and because the roots had not grown deep enough, the plants soon dried up.13:7 Some of the seed fell among thorn bushes, which grew up and choked the plants.13:8 But some seeds fell in good soil, and the plants bore grain: some had one hundred grains, others sixty, and others thirty."13:9 And Jesus concluded, "Listen, then, if you have ears!"
13:18"Listen, then, and learn what the parable of the sower means.13:19 Those who hear the message about the Kingdom but do not understand it are like the seeds that fell along the path. The Evil One comes and snatches away what was sown in them.13:20 The seeds that fell on rocky ground stand for those who receive the message gladly as soon as they hear it.13:21 But it does not sink deep into them, and they don't last long. So when trouble or persecution comes because of the message, they give up at once.13:22 The seeds that fell among thorn bushes stand for those who hear the message; but the worries about this life and the love for riches choke the message, and they don't bear fruit.13:23 And the seeds sown in the good soil stand for those who hear the message and understand it: they bear fruit, some as much as one hundred, others sixty, and others thirty."

2. Coding of Translation Differences (sentence by sentence in translations) in the above table.

a. Follow the coding system:

Red = agreement by all four translations (bold);

Blue = agreement by three of the four translations (underline);

Black = agreement by two of the four translations (italics).

If you are going to print out your assignment using a non-color printer, then add the formats listed in the parenthesis above to the color coding.

b. Identify all points of agreement (and thus difference by non-marking) in the passage.

See the example on Cranfordville.com for illustration.
