Procedure / Phase / Timing
Before class starts,if you chose not to use the flashcards you will need to draw pictures on the board of the fruits and vegetables you will use during your lesson. You should cover the drawings of the fruits and vegetables and reveal them as you introduce them during the lesson.
Ask the students what fruits and vegetables they know and like to eat. Also ask them to describe the fruits and vegetables.
Review the flashcards with the class.
(1) Ask the class to say the fruits and vegetables displayed on the flashcard.
(2) The teacher models the correct pronunciation by reading the flashcard.
(3) The class reads the flashcard and describes the physical characteristics.
Play Fruits and Vegetables Pictionary
Divide the class evenly into two or three teams.
For beginning English classes write the names of the all the fruits and vegetables on the side of the board as reference for the students who may be still learning the names.
Shuffle the flashcards and allow only the drawing student to see the picture. Call one student from each team to view the card. Give each a chalk or marker and have them draw the respective fruit or vegetable. Each selection should be different so as not to have team A looking on Team B to guess the answer.
Closing Activity
  1. The teacher holds up a flashcard and says to the class “I like _(Fruit or Vegetable on the card)_.”
  2. The teacher holds up a different flashcard, gently toss the foam ball to a student and ask them “What food do you like?”
  3. The student who caught the foam ball answers to class “I like _(Fruit or Vegetable on the card)_.”
  4. The student who just answered tosses the foam ball to a different student who did not answer and begins the process again asking the new student “What food do you like?”
Continue to toss the ball until all students have taken a turn
