Student Artist Selection Process
Applicants are required to submit a one page essay describing their goals as an artist and the inspiration behind their work. Images of applicant’s artwork will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

Honorable Mention Awards

Opening Reception & Awards Ceremony,Friday, March 6,2015, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
- All applicants are required to participate in a group exhibition at the Ventura
County Government Center, February20–April 7, 2015. Please see details below.
- All accepted work must be delivered by Wednesday, February 18 for judgingand remain on
displaythroughApril 7. All artwork must be picked up on April 8 beginning at 10 a.m.
Submission Instructions and Exhibition Requirements
All applicants must visit for the online application and upload instructions.3-5 electronic images are required for review by the panel of jurors. Images must be uploaded to .Incomplete or improperly prepared applications will be disqualified.
The originals of at least three of the works submitted must be available for exhibition purposes and appropriate for the general public.No nudity or excessive violence. Students will be notified by email which piece(s) of art are requested for exhibition. Large 2-dimensional works up to 36x48 will be accepted and must be prepared for hanging in a professional manner. Limited space is available for 3-dimensional work. All artwork MUST remain for the duration of the exhibition. Failure to meet exhibition deadlines is cause for disqualification. Please contact the Ventura County Arts Council at 805/658-2213 regarding any framing difficulties or questions. Winning artists will be asked to supply their entry as a high resolution jpeg file (300 dpi) on disk or by email for publicity purposes. Storage fee $5 per day for work not picked up between 10 a.m. and 5:00, April 8, 2015.

The Tamima Al-Awar Memorial Scholarship: The goal of the Tamima Al-Awar Memorial Scholarship is to award annual scholarships to VenturaCounty high school seniors for advanced visual art studies and to provide the students with a professional exhibition opportunity. The panel’s recommendations will be forwarded to the Ventura County Arts Council for final approval. Scholarships will be presented in full at the Ventura County Government Center Opening Reception & Awards Ceremony,Friday, March 6, 2015, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
About Tamima Al-Awar: Tamima was a graduate of The Thacher School where she discovered her passion for painting. She had planned to pursue a degree in Fine Arts at The Academy of Art College in San Francisco starting in January 2003. At the time of her passing she was enrolled in a painting course at Santa Barbara City College and painted actively at her home studio.
The Tamima Al-Awar MemorialScholarship was established by FOTM Patron and Al-Awar Family friend,
Paula Spellman. This year’s scholarships are funded by the Al-Awar Family, Paula Spellman and Theodore Miller with administration provided by FOTM and the VCAC. Both organizations are non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations.
Contributions to the scholarship fund are always welcome, and are tax deductible.
