Volunteer Opportunities
Boys and Girls Club of the Piedmont: The Boys and Girls Club is excited about building a relationship with Academy students. Contact Nakayla Griffin at 704-397-2427 for volunteer opportunities within the organization.
Fifth Street Ministries: Fifth Street Ministries welcomes Academy students to serve. The primary opportunity is to serve a meal in our soup kitchen, which serves 2 meals a day, 7 days a week, with lunch at 11 am and supper at 5:30 pm. Volunteers come 30 minutes prior to serving time, and service lasts approximately 30 minutes, giving an hour’s credit for each meal served. Call to get on the calendar to serve; Fifth Street is blessed to have great community support. Students can come as individuals or in a group, but the groups should be five or less. The phone number is 704-872-4045.
Iredell Christian Ministries: Iredell Christian Ministries’ hours for receiving clients are Mon-Wed 9:30am to noon and Thurs 1:00-3:30. Since these hours are school hours, students interested in service should contact the organization. They would be interested in special projects. Contact information: 322 E Front St Statesville, NC 28677, (704) 924-6700
Iredell Soil and Water Conservation District: Louise Wooten, education director, encourages 9th graders to participate in the poster contest, deadline in January. The group is presently planning an Environmental Field Day in October for 5th grade students in Iredell County. Five or six environmental specific stations will be set up at a local camp. Students will rotate between stations, which will last for 15 to 20 minutes per station. There will be a need for five or six Academy students assisting a presenter at each station. This will be held during the school day. More information will follow in the fall.
Power Cross Ministries: Power Cross, located at 1133 W. Front St., needs help with academic tutoring of the boys from ages 7-13. Tutoring is generally every Tuesday & Thursday from 4:00-5:15. There are also some opportunities from time to time on actual work projects like painting, gardening, and that kind of stuff. Contact Natalie Storment, 704-402-8011 or
