The Tale of Ole Langevine

(Based on: “THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS” by: Clement Clarke Moore)

Twas the week before Christmas and all through the class

All the students were working and thinking on mass;

Their work was all hung on the walls with care

Using tape and some tack so the paint did not tear;

The children were nestled all snug in their desks

Finishing assignments and papers and the occasional tests;

When out in the field there arose such a clatter

Lio sprang from her seat to see what was the matter;

Away to the window she flew like a flash

Jumped over poor Reese and slipped on some trash;

The sun on the breast of the new fallen snow

Excited the class and made their faces all glow;

When what to their wondering eyes did appear

But, their Principal… Langevinein funny snow gear;

He was wearing a toque and was strutting his stuff

As he looked for his helpers and acted real tough;

More rapid than eagles those helpers they came

And he whistled and shouted, and called them by name:

“Now, Kevin! Now, Ishraque! Now, Ara and Rafa!

On, Jesse! On, Reennah! On, Nathan, and Afrida!

To the back of the gym! And to the upstairs hall!

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

So away to the classrooms his helpers they flew

With paper and newsletters telling parents what’s new;

And then in a twinkling, I heard in the Gym

Langevine was singing a jolly old hymn;

It echoed and bounced all over the room

When I looked in the door, his mic was a broom;

No one was with him, but flung on his back

Was a bunch of new toysin a big red backpack;

His eyes – how they twinkled and his cheeks were so rosy

And I thought to myself, he looks just so cozy;

He spoke not a word, but went back to his song

When I stared at him more he asked me what’s wrong?

But, laying a finger aside of his nose

He gave me a nod and that’s when I froze;

He sprang to his truck, to Mrs. Lew gave a whistle

And away he did drive like the down of a thistle;

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight

“Happy Holidays you guys, make this New Year just right!”

From my family to yours.

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2018!
