/ Resources Centre Assistant

The College is a vibrant learning community employing approximately 230 staff of which roughly half work in a support role. Set over 25 acres the site is diverse, offering a range of services to learners and the community. Our support staff provide a wide range of advisory and support services to students with a view to helping them meet their potential. We have therefore identified a role for a committed, professional, and capable member of the team to join the Resources Centre.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The ideal applicant for this role is someone who can demonstrate energy, passion and enthusiasm for helping students meet their goals. It is a fast-paced environment requiring a positive ‘can-do’ attitude, a good and appropriate sense of humour and the ability to work flexibly. The suitable applicant is a person who enjoys working with, stimulating and encouraging young people. They will be someone who understands the crucial role the Resources Centre plays in a young person’s experience of QMC.

The successful candidate will be able to give a clear demonstration of:

•Strong and appropriate communication skills, when working with a variety of different age levels

•The ability to use their own initiative

•The ability to build and maintain trust with service users

•Good administrative and record keeping skills

•Experience of working in a similar environment

JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Purpose of job: To ensure the efficient running of the Resources Centre in all matters relating to stock maintenance, sales, copying, copying maintenance, cash collection, high presentation standards in the materials produced by the College and excellent customer support for students and staff.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Operating reprographic equipment to produce accurate, attractive, clear and up-to-date publications, publicity, and teaching materials
  • Assisting students in producing high quality presentation materials
  • Advise teaching staff and students on the most appropriate reprographic processes for their purposes
  • Liaising with the contractors who maintain, service, and repair reprographics, and other equipment
  • Be aware of copyright regulations and inform the Team Leader and or Director of College Support of any possible breach of agreements
  • Carrying out monthly meter readings to produce annual spreadsheet of usage figures
  • Operating the Cash Collection system
  • Serving in the Resources shop
  • Assisting with procurement of materials and services
  • Operating and maintaining the ID proximity card machine.
  • Maintaining and improving the standards and quality and efficiency of the Resources Centre
  • Contributing to the team ethos of the Resources Centre
  • To undertake any other such duties, commensurate with the grade of the post, as required by the Principal.

•Previous customer service experience (Essential)

CONTRACTUAL INFORMATION

Salary: / Scale Point 18 of the Sixth Form Colleges Salary, currently £16, 638 per annum. Please note this would be prorated to 46.2 weeks if working term-time.
Conditions of
Service: / Sixth Form Colleges Support Staff.
Start date: / ASAP
Working hours: / 37 hours per week. Hours would be worked between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm from Monday to Thursday and 8.30-4.30pm on Friday, with a one hour break for lunch.
Annual Leave entitlement: / If contract is undertaken as a full year post 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays and additional days over Christmas closure are given.
If the role is taken term-time then all leave is to be taken during College holiday periods most of which coincide with local school holidays. Entitlement to paid leave is included within the annual salary amount.
Other Terms and Conditions of service: / The successful candidate will have the choice whether or not to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. The College currently contributes a monthly sum equivalent to 19.1% of your salary, whilst staff at this salary level contribute 5.5 – 6%.
All College staff are required to apply for a DBS Disclosure. In addition, new legislation in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act will require you to register with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Any offer of employment will be conditional upon a satisfactory Disclosure and a six-month probationary period.
Staff are entitled to the benefits of the nationally agreed sickness and maternity leave schemes. The College operates a no smoking policy.
