1. Dropping of unit due to complex lift e.g. overall dimensions, centre of gravity, insufficient detail on lifting points etc. / Star employees and third parties. / 1. As part of the unit checklist a decision will be taken as to whether the unit lift is complex. If the lift is considered to be complex:
- the Design department may be requested to carry out a C of G check and may be asked to clarify lifting points.
- the sub-con will be invited to view the pack, to assess the lift, prior to the lift being carried out.
2. Dropping of unit due to mechanical failure of load-bearing component. / Slinger, Star employees and third parties. / 1. Sub-contractor’s lifting tackle e.g. slings, ropes, chains, eyes, craneage etc. shall be inspected as per Loler.
2. Under no circumstances must a load be traversed over staff, sub-contractors and visitors.
3. The weight of the load must be calculated prior to the unit lift and communicated to sub-contractor.
4. Safe working load must be clearly marked on all lifting equipment. / 1 / 3 / 3
3. Striking an object or person during the unit lift. / Star employees and third parties. / 1. Sub-contractors competency records shall be obtained prior to lifting.
2. The route to the wagon shall be planned prior to lifting the package e.g. ensure there is enough room to manoeuvre the unit, the floor is free from potential trips hazards etc.
3. Sub-contractor shall provide a minimum of 2 men. The person holding the pendant and a second man shall manage the area around the unit as it leaves the ground until it is positioned on the wagon. / 1 / 3 / 3
