Functions Unit

Objectives:

SOL 8.14

The student will make connections between any two representations (tables, graphs, words, and rules) of a given relationship.

SOL 8.16

The student will graph a linear equation in two variables.

SOL 8.17

The student will identify the domain, range, independent variable or dependent variable in a given situation.

Time:

Note: Most lessons were written for 90 minute blocks. An activity may be shortened, omitted, or added to another day if lesson is used during a 45 minute block.

2)Use the PowerPoint (Relations and Functions) and Notes Sheet to introduce the vocabulary related to relations and functions.

Homework or Classwork: Relations and Functions Practice

Day Two

Time: 90 minutes

Activities: Warm Up, Notes, Sort, and Homework

1)Warm Up – Review of previous content

2)Use the PowerPoint (Functions) and Notes Sheet to review homework and introduce and practice concepts with functions. The functions sort is within the Power Point presentation.

Day Three

1) Warm Up – Review of previous content

2) Use the PowerPoint (Linear Functions) and Notes Sheet to review homework and introduce and practice graphing linear functions.

3) Matching Functions, Graphs, and Tables Sort (Flip Chart)

Homework: Functions Homework (Day 3) Worksheet, Quiz in 2 classes

Day Four
