Introduction to Parametric Modeling

Assignment #4

Objective:

The student will create a base feature and add placed features.

Assignment:

o  In the “What to Do Dialog box” select the New option and the English tab. In the “New-Choose

Template Area” select the Inventor part file “Standard (in).ipt”

Base Feature

o  In the graphics window area create a rough sketch of the base feature using the 2D Sketch Panel.

o  Apply the dimensions to the two-dimensional sketch.

o  Modify the dimensions of the sketch to their actual values.

o  Extrude the two-dimensional sketch using the “extrude both sides” option to complete the parametric model.

Placed Feature: the two 0.50 x 0.38 solid features

o  Define a new sketch plane on the right side of the base feature.

o  Add the two 0.50 x 0.38 solid features.

o  Apply the dimensions to the two-dimensional sketch.

o  Modify the dimensions of the sketch to their actual values.

o  Extrude the features using the “join” feature option.

Placed Feature: 1.50 diameter hole

o  Define a new sketch plane on the sloping surface of the base feature and add the 1.50 diameter hole using the “point, center point” feature (placed feature).

o  Apply the dimensions to the sketch locating the center of the circle.

o  Modify the dimensions of the sketch to their actual values.

o  In the Part Features toolbar select the HOLE command to define the parameters type, dimensions, and termination of the hole.

o  Click the OK button to complete the Hole feature.

o  Save the finished model to your disk

o  Complete a fully annotated drawing. Include a Front View, a Right Side View, and a complete Auxiliary View.

Evaluation:

¨ Refer to the PROJECT EVALUATION handout for the required items to be turned in for evaluation.

·  Project Assignment Sheet(s) including all drawings

·  Hard copy (finished plot) of the assignment

·  The part file (ipt) and drawing file (idw) copied to the grading folder
