Purpose of PostTo fundraise for the NYMT, and to work with other fundraising employees and the Board to maintain, develop and secure funding

for new and existing projects

Salary£24-27,000 pro rata, for a 2 day week (15 hrs/wk)

General

You will be working as part of a small, dedicated team to raise funds for the work of the NYMT. The Fundraising Officer role is a key role within the organisation and the post holder will be responsible for supporting all fundraising activities in order to meet the vision and objectives outlined in the fundraising strategy.The post holder will be a self-starter with exceptional skills in administration, planning, research and communication (written and verbal).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with and under the direction of the FAB, you will:

  1. Contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of NYMT’s wider services, which may include working in a group setting or on an individual basis and regular attendance of the relevant NYMT team meetings and development days.
  2. Identify potential donors including government departments, trusts, companies and individuals and prepare applications for funding.
  3. Establish and maintain relationships with existing funders, including report writing and reapplication to such supporters.
  4. Develop and implement strategies to increase donations from individuals.
  5. Develop and maintain efficient and comprehensive records and systems covering all aspects of fundraising work.
  6. As part of a small team, produce promotional materials and information for prospective supporters, including the NYMT newsletter and Annual Report.
  7. Devise and develop fundraising events and initiatives to raise support and public interest.
  8. Identify appropriate media opportunities and produce press releases.

GENERAL

  1. Represent the organisation at appropriate external meetings and events.
  2. Implement the Equal Opportunities Policy, understanding its implications.
  3. Abide by the policies and procedures of the NYMT.
  4. Attend training courses as required.
  5. Undertake any other duties consistent with the post.

KEY TASKS

  1. Information systems and prospective donor research
  • Set up and maintain an efficient and effective records system that can be updated and accessed centrally to suit the needs outlined below.
  • Identify and research potential donors (including individuals, companies, government departments and trusts), and capture this information in a user-friendly database.
  • Work closely with key colleagues to source information about NYMT’s projects and services including case studies, outcomes, quotes, key statistics, images and financial information.

  • Send all thank-you communications and respond to fundraising queries from supporters
  • Identify supporters with growth potential in line with the FR strategy
  • Produce reports and project evaluations (generic and bespoke)
  1. Fundraising
  • Assist with all fundraising activities
  • Prepare information for funding opportunities eg funding application forms, proposals and presentations
  • Identifying newsworthy fundraising stories to feature in communications such as the website and newsletter, and providing content such as images and copy for these

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills in oral and written English.
  • Good knowledge of funding sources
  • IT literate including use of Microsoft Word, Excel, FR databases and internet
  • Ability to relate to people of all levels
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to establish and maintain constructive relationships with a wide range of people including senior managers both within and outside of the organization
  • Must have sufficient financial capability to be able to understand and report accurately on financial outcomes from the service
  • A high level of self-motivation and good use of personal initiative
  • Enthusiasm and drive for fundraising
  • Experience of organising fundraising events

Probationary period

Offers of appointment shall be subject to a period of probation. During this probationary period the appointment may be terminated with one week’s notice on either side. On satisfactory completion of the probationary period, a letter confirming the appointment will be issued. Normally the duration of the probationary period will be three months. Any agreed variation will be stated in the Letter of Appointment.
