The Sparks Police Explorer Post is seeking assistance with fundraising to improve our program.
Police Explorers are a group of young adults, ages 14 to 21 who are interested in Law Enforcement. The Police Explorer program is managed through Boy Scouts of America in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies. Each local program is referred to as a “Post”.
Sparks Police Explorers get to experience different aspects of the job by working in the various divisions of the police department, such as Dispatch, Records and Patrol. Police Explorers have the chance to go on ride-alongs with the Officers of the Sparks Police Department on a regular basis.
The Explorer Post at Sparks Police Department has meetings every second and fourth Sunday of the month. During these meetings the Explorers get to see how Officers train, which includes but is not limited to: building searches, hostage negotiation, detectives and any other training that Explorers are interested in learning. Explorers conduct countless hours of community service and routinely help out with such programs as Special Olympics.
We are asking for your attendance to help raise money so we can attend an Explorer competition. These competitions occur throughout the year in all areas of the country. The competitions allow explorer posts throughout the country to be tested on various aspects of law enforcement in the hopes of obtaining a rank and trophy while working as a team. These competitions allow young adults to learn what it’s like to make quick decisions as an Officer on Patrol. We will compete in different scenarios such as high risk traffic stops, cold case investigation, and crisis negotiation. We will also be able to compete in individual events such as traffic stops, inventory search, and an obstacle course. At the end of the competition the Explorers get to see how well they did and will be awarded for their hard work.
We appreciate any support you can offer.
