The Soothing Beat:Reflexion
For my second piece, I started by writing the melodies first before finding the loops to go with them. However, this proved to be very difficult. I struggled finding loops that would blend nicely with my melodies. After this, I decided to find the loops first and then write the melodies. I found a series of loops called “dream disco” that perfectly fit the soft jazz and disco vibe that I wanted. The melody came to me easily afterwards. I decided to repeat the section at the end of my piece to give it a finale, thus using the ABA form.
For the B section of my composition, I decided to use the “uplifting disco electric keyboard” and the “uplifting disco guitar” loops, because I felt that it coincided very well with my A section. As for the melody, it took me a few attempts before I finally settled on the one I used in the composition. I also decided to use the drummer track in this section. I already had the beat for section A, and I couldn’t find any loops that I liked for section B. I used the “half-pipe” set, and adjusted it so that the track was soft and complex. I wanted the track to stand out, but not be too overpowering.
For the editing process I used the reverb setting for my melody on section A. I had used the sustain pedal on that track to soften it, but I didn’t feel that it was enough. In addition liked the soothing effect it gave the entire composition. I also slightly adjusted the volume for my melody and the guitar because the sound would have been very muddled and it would be difficult to hear all of the tracks. Then, I cut the last loop on section A to make the transition from section A to section B more seamless. In section B, I lowered the volume on the guitar and electric piano loops, as well as the drummer track. I then increased the volume on my melody track. The first three tracks were already loud, and I wanted my melody to be the most prominent one. I also used the echo effect toward the end of the section to create a transition from section B to section A. For my final section, the editing process was the same. I decided to then use the last loop as an outro and used the fade out effect. I didn’t want my piece to end too abruptly, and I thought the effect was very fitting for my piece.
Overall, I am very happy with the way my piece turned out. I thought that I wouldn’t like the end result due to the struggles I had in the beginning, but I am proud of the final piece. If I could change something, I would probably shorten the last section because I feel that it gets quite repetitive, but other than that, I would not change a thing.
