Awards/Recognition Evening
This year our Awards/Recognition Evening was held on November 17. This was the 27th. It is always nice to be able to recognize the achievements of our students and interact with them in a social setting.

Several Departmental awards were given at the event. David Ryba received the Mark R. Lambrecht Award for Scholarship and Commitment and Bertha Vandegrift received the Kate Barany Graduate Student Award. This year the Philip L. Hawley Distinguished Faculty Award was presented to Dr. John Kennedy.

Transitions
Dr. Mrinalini (Meena) Rao retired. She has been an integral part of our Department since 1984.
Dr. Alexandra Naba joined our faculty as an Assistant Professor. I actually did videos of her explaining her science and her path in science.

With Thanksgiving in a couple of days and the holiday season soon to follow we all have much to be thankful for. Many of us make contributions at this time of year.
