Before you begin
Description
/
  • Used oil filters which are non-terne plated (terne is an alloy of tin and lead), from engines including gasoline, diesel, vehicle, generator and marine engines
  • Fuel oil filters, glycol filters, production filters, chemical filters

Analysis
/ None required
Accumulation
/ Used oil filters that are handled in any of the following ways are considered to be non-hazardous waste:
  • Puncture the filter anti-drain back valve or the filter dome end and hot drain a minimum of 48 hours. Oil drained from filters must be handled as used oil.
  • Drained filters must be placed in a labeled and closed container
NOTE:Used oil filters that are not handled as indicated above may be hazardous waste.
Waste Reduction
/
  • Minimize wasteful usage practices (i.e., overuse or excessive usage).

Disposal
/
  • Send drained filters to a state-permitted recycling/disposal facility.

Recordkeeping
/
  • List on cargo manifest
  • Maintain a copy of records at offshore and shorebase facilities while active. Send original manifest with shipment.
  • Retain records for three years.

Description: FUEL AND OIL FILTERS

NOTE:
FUEL AND OIL FILTERS USED IN ENGINE SYSTEMS SHOULD BE DRAINED (48 HOURS MINIMUM) PRIOR TO SHIPMENT FOR DISPOSAL. DRUMS ARE PROVIDED OFFSHORE FOR THIS PURPOSE. THESE DRUMS SHOULD BE PROTECTED TO PREVENT RAINWATER FROM MIXING WITH RECOVERED OIL. ONCE THE FILTERS ARE DRAINED, THEY ARE CONSIDERED NON-HAZARDOUS SOLID WASTE.

1.Call or FAX Dock/Base to schedule shipment.

2.Package Filters as follows:

a.Place in recycling drums/containers provided specifically for filters.

b.Return oil to Production System.

3.Mark Package:

  1. No marking required by DOT.
  2. EPA, & Louisiana DEQ require identification of contents such as “used filters”.
  3. Stencil the container “Fieldwood Energy” and the generator’s location (i.e. EugeneIsland 158).

4.Label Package:

a.No Labeling required by DOT.

5.Manifesting:

a.Complete entry in General Cargo Section [Section II] of the Fieldwood EnergyShipping Manifest. (See example)

6.Placard Vehicle/Vessel:

  1. No Placard required.

7.Load cargo in accordance with the following shipping limitations:

AIR / RESTRICTIONS (49 CFR 172.101)
Passenger Aircraft / No Restrictions
Cargo Aircraft / No Restrictions
WATER / RESTRICTIONS (49 CFR 172.101)
Cargo and passenger vessels / No Restrictions
Other Requirements / None

8.MSDS not required for empty filters.

Description: GLYCOL FILTERS

NOTE:
FILTERS USED IN PROCESS SYSTEMS SHOULD BE DRAINED (48 HOURS MINIMUM) PRIOR TO SHIPMENT FOR DISPOSAL. DRUMS ARE PROVIDED OFFSHORE FOR THIS PURPOSE. THESE DRUMS SHOULD BE PROTECTED TO PREVENT RAINWATER FROM MIXING WITH RECOVERED OIL. ONCE THE FILTERS ARE DRAINED, THEY ARE CONSIDERED NON-HAZARDOUS SOLID WASTE.

1.Call or FAX Dock/Base to schedule shipment.

2.Package Glycol Filters as follows:

a.Specification DOT 1A2 (Steel) or 1H2 (plastic or poly) Drums.

b.Prevent contamination from rainwater.

3.Mark Package:

a."Filters" – not regulated by DOT

b.Stencil Container-”Fieldwood Energy” and the generator's location (i.e. EugeneIsland 158)

4.Label Package:

a.No label required

5.Prepare manifest:

a.Complete entry in General Cargo Section [Section II] of the Fieldwood EnergyShipping Manifest. (See example).

6.Placard Vehicle/Vessel:

  1. No Placard Required.
