Could you be the 40th?

The Search for Miss Oktoberfest 2008 is on…

(Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada – August 7, 2008) – For the second year in a row, the search for Miss Oktoberfest will hit the streets of Kitchener and Waterloo in hopes of finding this year’s ambassador for Canada’s Greatest Bavarian Festival as it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

In keeping with last year’s approach, an Oktoberfest team including Miss Oktoberfest 2007 and Onkel Hans will be visiting local establishments to meet and greet women who might be interested in fulfilling the role of Miss Oktoberfest 2008.

Says Krystal Benesch, a former Miss Oktoberfest and Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Marketing Chair, “We’re taking the search for Miss Oktoberfest to the community because the role is about a lot more than just finding a pretty face. We’re looking for individuals who can be a role model for young women and who can represent our community and our festival as its lead ambassador in the best possible light.”

This past Sunday, the team was at Bobby O’Briens in Kitchener. In the coming weeks, the team will also be visiting the following locations as the search continues:

·  Friday, August 8, Dallas, 312 King Street W., Kitchener, 9:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m.

·  Saturday, August 9, Caesar Martini’s, 140 University Ave. W, Waterloo, 8:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m.

·  Saturday, August 16, Conestoga Mall, Waterloo, 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

At each of these venues, the Oktoberfest team will be on hand providing information about the search, the process, and about the rules and regulations. Individuals – men and women – who take the time to learn more will not go home empty handed. Each woman who takes an application will also receive a rose, and men who can convince two women to take an application will go home with an Oktoberfest hat.

Women between the ages of 19 and 27 who live within an 80 km radius of Kitchener-Waterloo are eligible for the competition. Other requirements include that participants are single with no children, and are actively involved in the community. Participants are also required to find a sponsor who will contribute $300 to cover entry fees.

Says Benesch, “We’re excited to be starting the search for Miss Oktoberfest 2008. Marking the 40th anniversary, we expect another banner year for Oktoberfest. I know that there’s a young woman in our community who will enjoy the honour of participating in all of the festivities and in special events throughout her reign. Now, we have the fun task of finding her.”
