/ Canadian Kendo Federation - Western Iaido Section

The Western Iaido Section of the Canadian Kendo Federation invites you to attend a three-day Iaido seminar on August 18, 19, and 20, 2017in Burnaby BC, Canada(a suburb on Vancouver).

We are honoured to have AtsumiHatakenaka-sensei (Kyoshi, Hachidan) to lead the seminar that will be held at Simon Fraser University. Sensei is the 3rd women to have achieved the rank of 8-Dan in Iaido in the All Japan Kendo Federation. She started Iaido at an early age in Kochi under the tutelage of Yamamoto Harusuke, learning MusoJikidenEishinRyu. At 5-Dan she was named the top practitioner for her prefecture and was selected as theirrepresentative at the All Japan Iaido Championships. She currently resides in Tokyo as the head instructor of Tokushi-Kai. Her students from Waseda University and other schools frequently place well in Iaido tournaments across the city.

Hatakenaka Sensei has been a long-time supporter of Iaido in Canada, making annual visits to Toronto, Guelph, and most recently Montreal, while also welcoming Canadian Iaidoka to her dojo in Japan.

*** The grading will be for ikkyu to sandan administer by the CKF - Western Iaido Section. CKF members should apply for grading as usual through the CKF website. Those from other federations who wish to grade should obtain permission from their national federation and then follow the Canadian Kendo Federation registration procedure for non-members.
