The meeting ofDecember 2, 2013,wasopened by President Laureen Morleywho began the meeting with the singing ofAmerica, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and the Four-Way-Test. Maria Teresa Walker gave the blessing.

Our appreciation to Betty and Bill Smith for hosting a wonderful Holiday Party at their beautifully decorated home. A delicious dinner was catered by Sound Bites, and a choral group from Stonington High School entertained with carols. Also, thanks to the Family of Rotary for organizing it.

HAPPY-SAD:

  • Bill Smith has been elected to the Groton RTM. Congratulations!
  • We were pleased to have District Governor Rick Bassett with us, and also Assistant Governor Gerry Tom.
  • From the Mystic and Stonington Rotary Clubs a combined check of $1,678.76 was matched for the Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.
  • Global Grant Scholarships are available. See Laureen for information.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • A storage container will be near the registration table through February 15 for the donation of children’s books, sponsored by the American Friends of Kenya. In addition to books, National Geographic magazines are welcome.
  • Bill Oat is collecting 2014 calendars for the Senior Center.
  • The District Directory is now available on line.
  • Rotary Fellowship Dinners are in the works! Any couple donating $100.00 will be entered into a raffle for a day out on Ted Parkers Sailboat, complete with a picnic lunch and wine. See Nancy McMillan if you are interestede-mail
  • The Interact Club at Stonington High School still needs a sponsor. If you can volunteer for this worthwhile position see Barry Saluk.
  • Donate to the Rotary Foundation! Any amount will be accepted, it only costs $.64 per dose of polio vaccine, every dollar counts. A $100 donation will make you RI Foundation sustaining member. – Donations can be given to Jake Hanley
  • Purchase a Rotary Apron ($15) and a Rotary Hat ($15). The apron will keep you clean, and the hat is just plain stylish! See Jack Fix.
  • Please see John Porter to obtain your copy of the club directory. John Porter also has Rotary pins if anyone needs a new one, they are $2.00
  • Alternative ideas on fund raising should be brought to the Fundraising Committee.We need new ideas!
  • MYSTIC ROTARY CLUB ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB! you have forgotten your password, request a new one from Jack Garbarino.
  • Family of Rotary contact is Mary Lou Addazio. If you know of anyone with a major life event going on, death in the family, new baby, illness, etc. please let her know.
  • The Club is looking for a coordinator to be at the entrance each week to meet guests, speakers and visiting Rotarians. This is very important. Please see Jake if you can help. It may take several people on a rotating schedule to carry out this important function.

Maggie Jones celebrates a birthday on Dec. 17th, Blunt White on the 18th and Jim Clark on December 25th. Anniversaries for Hugh and Consuelo Bush on Dec. 23rd, Marcia and Jack Fix on the 28th and Brenda and George Sylvestre on the 30th. Best wishes to all.

The Club will NOT meet on December 23 and December 30.
