The role is responsible for the day to day operations of the Coomalie Art Centre (CAC) as a functioning Art Centre. In doing so, the Coordinator will work closely with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islandercommunity and the Office of the Elder Academic and Cultural Leadership.

The Coordinator is expected to develop the CAC into an economically viable entity, generating profit through the sale of a variety of art and craft, especially student art and local art. Raising the profile of the Centre and Batchelor Institute as a whole will be part of this role.

The role involves interaction with the public, tour groups and develop working relationships with the Coomalie Art Centre governance committee, Batchelor Institute stakeholders, local and interstate suppliers. The Coordinator will also work closely with the Institute senior lecturer Art.

  2. Supervise the daily operations of the Coomalie Art Centre
  3. Operate the point of sale system and cash handling
  4. Take responsibility for general financial management of the Centre including finances, stock takes, banking and cash transactions
  5. Stock control and record keeping in line with the CAC business model
  6. Comply with statutory requirements including current OH&S legislation
  7. Liaise with the Batchelor facilities team to ensure routine cleaning and grounds maintenance is carried out
  8. Host and/or facilitate tour groups and ad-hoc events
  9. Work closely with the Art Senior Lecturer
  10. Supervise students when necessary
  11. Other duties as required.
  12. Essential selection criteria
  13. Demonstrated knowledgeofAboriginalart and craft.
  14. Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures
  15. Demonstrated capacity to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as well as and non-indigenous people, including students, members of remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, members of the public and a variety of Batchelor stakeholders.
  16. Excellent cross-cultural communication and liaising skills, high degree of adaptability and the resilience and ability to work in a predominately non-Aboriginal environment close knit team.
  17. Demonstrated ability with customer service skills
  18. Proven capacity to work effectively with others in culturally diverse teams, as well as being able to operate independently of direct supervision.
  19. Qualifications in arts management, curatorial practice, business management or similar.
  20. Proven financial management, budgeting skills and experience with financial accounting packages (for example: MYOB or Xero)
  21. Demonstrated experience in anart gallery retail environment.
  22. Demonstrated successful experience in relevant event planning, management and administration.
  23. Demonstrated experience with database systems, spreadsheet and word processing programs within a networked environment and those applications pertaining to art centres.
  24. Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work well under pressure as well as be flexible within the role.

  26. Hold a current First Aid Certificate or have the ability to obtain
  27. Demonstrated knowledge of NT Tourism Organisations
  28. Have knowledgeof a broad range of local Aboriginalhistories and cultures

Salary dependent on experience and qualification, within the range $68,057 - $77,603.
