The Rock Church Portland, Indiana Senior Pastor

Purpose: To “prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up” Ephesians 4:12. This shall include but not be limited to preaching the Word and leading public worship, engaging in evangelism and discipleship, guiding in works of service, and giving opportunities for fellowship.

Reports to: The Rock Heart Team (Lay Leadership)

Ministry Responsibilities:

1.Preaching TheWord

-Biblically sound

-Practical and challenging

-Develop ministry staff as preachers, scheduling opportunities for them to preach at least 10 weeks per year

2.Leading Publicworship

-Work with Worship Pastor, Youth Pastor, and Children’s Pastor to develop services

-Giving attention to the areas of prayer, giving, testimony, baptism, communion and service

3.Engaging in Evangelism andDiscipleship

-Work with Connection Pastor for discipleship in Connection Groups

-Regularly present the Gospel

-Make disciples who make disciples

-Cast and implement a unified vision for Evangelism and Discipleship of all ages and ministries

4.Guiding in Works ofService

-Work with staff to develop and equip volunteers for acts of service

-Identify opportunities to serve outside of The Rock facilities

-Personally engage with the community

5.Giving Opportunities forFellowship

-Within the facilities of the Rock

-Outside the facilities of the Rock

-Small groups

6.ProvidingLeadership

-The Staff: Encourage personal growth, manage schedules, and ensure compliance with the Employee Handbook

-Leadership Team:

*Assist with meeting agendas and items to discuss

*Meet regularly and develop new lay leaders

*Cultivate a relationship of accountability with the Heart Team (Lay Leaders)

*Work with the budget and facilities

-The Body: Identify and call out future leaders

The ideal candidate will be:

1.A leader of leaders - one who will provide spiritual instruction and strategic leadership to promote a common vision and assume the responsibility of directing, delegating, and facilitating amongst all staff and members of the churchbody.

2.A Spirit-filled leader - one who is sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and to the overall health of the church body through prayer, teaching, worship, and knowledge of thescriptures.

3.Challenging - one who challenges the listener by delivering applicablemessages to both the unchurched and the committed follower, inspiring each to reach wider and growdeeper.

4.An equipper - one who recognizes his own spiritual giftings and, in return,will confirm and encourage the church body in their individualgiftings.

5.A visionary - one who recognizes God’s vision for the culture of the community and the surrounding areas, and has the desire to effectively lead the churchbody to fulfill God’s purpose in thecommunity.

6.A discipler - Committed to developing and strengthening believers into becoming disciples, and one who recognizes that it is imperative for him to be involved in one-on-onediscipleship.

7.Mission-minded – one who will cultivate a culture which encourages the church body to seek opportunities to spread the Gospel in Portland, Jay County, and globally. He will challenge the body to support and equip missionaries to serve locally and abroad through prayer, spiritual guidance, and financialsupport.

8.Friendly - one who has an approachable personality that will relate to a socioeconomically diverse group ofpeople.

9.A Dynamic Teacher - one who delivers captivating messages, regardless of popularity, that challenge and deepen the faith of the body. This will include providing learning opportunities and guidance for the staff and leadership team members.

10.Loving - one with an attitude of compassion that is demonstrated through providing loving spiritual care to thecommunity.

Qualifications:

1.A minimum 10 years of experience as Senior Pastor ispreferred.

2.The Senior Pastor candidate should have a proven record of leading a diverse, giftedstaff.

3.The Senior Pastor candidate must subscribe to The Rock CoreValues.

4.The Senior Pastor candidate must hold or obtain appropriate ministry credentials through the MissionaryChurch.
