YOUR JOB:

1. As a group, create a visual presentation for the “Road To The Civil War”

2. Using your text & research, explain the important factors that caused the Civil War … (see Part A).

3. Make an actual “road” with the events & key figures on it. BE CREATIVE!! (Past examples include a road,

highway, train, plane, rainbow, hopscotch, movie, etc.)

INFORMATION TO INCLUDE…

A. FACTS/ EVENTS/ KEY FIGURES

Facts are specific events that are influential & meaningful to the understanding of the Civil War. You need to include these events on your “road.” Include the date & present the information chronologically. *You need a visual (picture, chart, map, graph) & title for each of the following events.

1. Missouri Compromise / 6. American Anti-Slavery Society / 11. Kansas-Nebraska Act / 16. Election of 1860
2. Sectionalism (1800s) / 7. Life of Frederick Douglass published / 12. Election of 1856 / 17. South Secedes
3. Cotton Gin Invented / 8. Compromise of 1850 / 13. Dred Scott case / 18. Confederate States of America (CSA) formed
4. Nat Turner’s Rebellion / 9. Fugitive Slave Act / 14. John Brown’s Raid / 19. Lincoln’s Inauguration Address
5. Underground Railroad (1825) / 10. Uncle Tom’s Cabin published (1852) / 15. Lincoln-Douglas Debates / 20. Fort Sumter

B. SUMMARY

In addition to your “road” visual portion, you will also summarize each of the events. In this summary you should describe/identify the event, making connections throughout the summary. Consider:

a. When, where, & what occurred; who was involved?

b. Why is this event important in history?

c. How does the event connect to other events (i.e. cause & effect, etc.).

*Each event should be numbered & start with the title of the event which should be highlighted, bolded or underlined. Under the name, respond to a), b), & c) in full sentences. It should be typed or NEATLY written. I want the summary in one cohesive document. This does NOT go on your poster. It is to be turned in separately.
