Tuesday, February 3, 2015 5:30 P.M.

3.1  Approval of Minutes from January 20th, 2014 Meeting Action

Motion to approve the minutes was made by Shannon Huynh and seconded by Veronica Preciado

3.2  Operation Safe House Visit Report

A report was given and some members felt that there was more intimate time when games were being played as opposed to just watching a movie. This issue wasn’t the councils fault as we have many restrictions that we must adhere to at operation safehouse. Will is going to contact the coordinator about management of activities for the next time we do this event.

3.3  Soup Kitchen Report

Members gave a report and the council enjoys these events, more opportunities will be made available later next month. The most appropriate time to arrive to these events will be around 4 pm.

3.4  Youth Summit Discussion

Members were informed of the youth summit and the limits of transportation capacity. Members will be arriving at 6 am to drive to the event in palm springs. Members reminded of their obligations to this event unless you have a school conflict and cannot attend.

3.5  Senior Sweetheart Social decoration and prize creation Action

Members were reminded of the upcoming event and were ask to assist with the decorations and prize creation. Members took time to prepare welcome posters and create the 11 prizes.

3.6  Tracking sheet requirements/attendance Discussion

Tracking sheets were collected and will be given back at the next meeting. If you were not able to turn in your sheet please bring this to the next meeting.

4.1  Event: Soul Food Senior Sweetheart Social (Value: 3 Participation Credits)

When: Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Time: 11:00am-3:30pm

Location: Eddie Dee Smith Center, 5888 Mission Boulevard Riverside, CA 92509

What to wear: YAC shirts

Notes: This is a mandatory event for all Council Members to participate in. Council members must submit a note to Will if they are unable to attend prior to the event. This event will be hosted by YAC at the Eddie Dee Smith Center. We will be providing drinks, prizes, music, and food for the attending senior citizens. Please see will to sign up for particular jobs on the assignment sheet. Members need to arrive promptly at 11:00am.

4.2  The Riverside County Youth Commission Meeting

Time: 5:30 P.M. – 6:30 P.M

Location: The County Administrative Center Board Chambers located at 4080 Lemon Street, 1st Floor, Riverside, 92502

What to Wear: This event does not require specific attire

Activity Coordinator: N/A

Notes: Those that attend the Youth Commission meeting will listen to the discussion that occurs during the meeting. In order for you to receive credit for this event you must write up a few observations about the discussion and provide a report of your observations at the next council meeting. You will not be required to sign in or check in during this event, all that is required are your observations and your brief oral report at the meeting.

4.3  Riverside County Parks Healthy Living Extravaganza

When: April 11th, 2015

Time: 10:00am-2:00pm

Location: Rancho Jurupa Park, 4800 Crestmore Road, Jurupa Valley CA 92509

What to Wear: YAC shirts, close toed shoes, and pants.

Participation Credits: 2

Notes: the county is continuing the development of the "Healthy Riverside County Initiative." To that end, the County of Riverside, City of Jurupa Valley, Jurupa Valley Community Services District, Riverside County Health Coalition, Healthy Jurupa Valley, and Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District have come together to create the "Healthy Living Extravaganza." A community health and wellness expo; providing lessons on healthy eating, nutrition and meal planning, health screenings and educate the public on the services available to them. Activities and entertainment for all ages are on the agenda, and various healthy food vendors are scheduled to participate.

The committee formally requests the District 2 YAC's participation as volunteers to help support children's activities promoting healthy lifestyles. We are working numerous vendors and partners which will also help support a fully interactive children's education zone which may be an ideal fit for the YAC.

4.4  Event: 15th Annual Youth Summit

When: Thursday, March 19th, 2014

Time: 8:00-3:00pm

Participation Credits: 3

Location: Desert Princess resort, Palm Springs, Ca

What to Wear: YAC Shirt

Notes: Your attendance is required for the Youth Summit to ensure its success and the participation of our council amongst the Youth Commission. Members in attendance will serve as facilitators throughout the day through workshops and activities. Those that attend will receive transportation, lunch, and a letter of excusal from school. This event will take place in Palm Springs, members will meet at the CAC the morning of the event to be shuttled to and from the Summit. Members will be assisting as well as participating in the event and members who cannot attend must submit a written letter of the reasons you cannot attend.
