Cullman’s Community Church

HOW DOES ST. JOHN’S CALL A PASTOR?

Watch your bulletin next Sunday for the process of how St. John’s extends a call for a new pastor.

St. John’s Church is…..

Rooted in the doctrines of the Protestant Reformation. We believe we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus, that the Bible is the rule for Christian life and faith, and that the Good News of Jesus should be proclaimed in word and deed.

Sacrament Celebrating. We believe God ministers to the community of believers in unique and special ways through Baptism and Holy Communion.

Liturgically Oriented. We believe remembering the whole life of Christ is important for spiritual maturity. We follow the church calendar, celebrating seasons like Advent and Lent.

Ecumenically Minded. In the context of our heritage, we believe all those who call upon Jesus as Lord will share in his eternal blessings and so we welcome all believers who join us to participate fully in worship.

WELCOME

STEPHEN MINISTRY

“Bear one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

What is Stephen Ministry? Our congregation’s Stephen Ministry equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. A Stephen Minister is: A child of God who walks beside a person who is hurting; A congregation member with gifts for care giving who was carefully selected to serve in this role; A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in providing emotional and spiritual care; A caring, Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports, and encourages; Someone who will “be there” for his or her care receiver, meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there’s a need.

CHUCKLE OF THE DAY

Cowboy Joe was telling his fellow cowboys back on the ranch about his first visit to a big city church. “When I got there, they had me park my old truck in the corral,” Joe began. “You mean the parking lot?” interrupted Charlie who was a more worldly man. “I walked up the trail to th e door,” Joe continued. “The sidewalk to the door,” Charlie corrected him. “Inside the door, I was met by a dude,” Joe went on. “That would be an usher,” Charlie explained. “Well, the usher led me down the chute,” Joe said. “You mean the aisle,” Charlie said. “Then, he led me to a stall and told me to sit there”, Joe continued.

“Pew,” Charlie retorted.

“Yeah, recalled Joe. That’s exactly what the petty lady said when I sat down beside her!”

10:00 Communion Worship

Some details

Where? The Sanctuary.

What? Worship following the order of a typical Sunday morning Communion service at St. John’s, allowing us to celebrate weekly the Sacrament. It will include hymns, Scripture readings, the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, sermon, Communion, etc. The service will be just under an hour in length.

Will this affect our traditional Communion times in the 8 and 10:30 services? No!

When? Beginning November 4 and extending through the Easter season (contingent on attendance, of course).

Why? Two reasons primarily. 1. We recognize that many in the congregation weren’t prepared for the changes we’ve made in moving worship to Christ Hall and this represents a step toward a long term schedule that could includes three worship services on our campus. 2. It is a good season in the life of the church to explore different worship opportunities.

Who? Representation from the pastoral staff and you. Because of our demanding Sunday morning schedule, we will not be able to have a choir in this service for the foreseeable future.

Help us out!

We need to know how to prepare for this service.

Please offer your response if you are thinking of attending by placing your response in the offering plate this morning.

Are you/your family planning on attending or thinking about attending this service? How many?
