The Regions of France Collaborative Project Overview

Project Overview

France is divided into many regions. There are 13 regions in Metropolitan France (including the island of Corsica) and five overseas regions. Each region has its own history, traditions, cuisine, and local culture.
The regions of France, listed in alphabetical order, are:

  • Aquitaine, Limousin, and Poitou-Charentes
  • Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes
  • Normandie (formerly Basse-Normandie and Haute-Normandie)
  • Bourgogne - Franche-Comté
  • Bretagne
  • Centre Val de Loire
  • Corse
  • Grand-Est (formerly Alsace, Champagne-Ardenne, and Lorraine)
  • Hauts-de-France (formerly Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardie)
  • Île-de-France
  • Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées
  • Pays de la Loire
  • Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The overseas regions are:
French GuianaMartinique Réunion
GuadeloupeMayotte

You and your classmates will work in small groups to learn more about these regions. Your group will create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that displays the unique features of your assigned region.

Group Formation

Your teacher will divide the class into groups of three (or four) students and will assign each group a region of France to research. Each member of the group will be assigned a project role. Project roles include the Historian, the Activities Director, and the Editor. Their responsibilities are shown below.

Project roles for groups of 3 students:

1) The Historian will:

  • research the historical significance of the region.
  • research the type of geography found within the region.
  • research the climate of the region.
  • find three pictures of the region that relate to these topics.

2) The Activities Director will:

  • research the famous sites and monuments found within the region.
  • research the local cuisine and special foods found within the region.
  • find three pictures of the region that relate to these topics.

3) The Editor will:

  • find the official flag of the region.
  • find a map of the region.
  • identify the major cities, including the capital city, of the region.
  • find four pictures of the region.
  • compile the research done by group members into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.

1) The Historian will:

  • research the climate of the region.

4) The Editor will:

  • identify the major cities, including the capital city, of the region.
  • find four pictures of the region.
  • compile the research done by group members into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation.
