Background info on Rainbow Centre:

The Rainbow Centre for Children is a registered charity and limited company which provides therapeutic support to children, and their families, who are affected by life threatening illness or bereavement. The focus of its’ work is the use of the creative arts to support children and the provision of counselling to their parents/carers.

In November 2016 The Rainbow Centre went into partnership with a nationally renowned children’s bereavement charity, Grief Encounter, who are based in London. Following this The Rainbow Centre has expanded the range of its’ services to include, as well as 1:1 support, creative arts groups for children, group sessions for adults and family days out for groups of families to local attractions.

We are now looking for a proactive, versatile professional fundraiserto join our small team and assist with growing our services.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Overall Job Purpose:

To provide an effective fundraising function to support the delivery of the organisation’s objectives, achieving new and increased sources of income and to provide efficient and effective fundraising information to the Board

To secure income through a variety of means though mainly fromTrusts and Foundations. Income from community groups, individuals, companies and in memoriam will be sought according to the returns generated and available resources.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Submit high quality funding applications to Trusts and Foundations
  • Manage and develop a portfolio of trusts, foundations and grant-making organisations, and identify new funding opportunities
  • Research potential new funders and grants
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing funding/grant making organisations through regular communication to maximise the value and duration of support
  • Assist in managing incoming community and general fundraising enquiries
  • Identify relevant companies for charity of the year partnerships, which deliver income and in-kind support for our work
  • Give brief talks, attend events and cheque presentations etc to maintain the public profile and develop supporter relationships
  • Meet fundraising budgets and targets as agreed each year
  • Keep abreast of existing and new legislation, plus guidance from the Institute of Fundraising, ensuring our fundraising meets the highest standards
  • Maintain systems for donation processing, Gift Aid claims, data management and donor stewardship and ensure the database is kept up-to-date
  • Monitor and report on fundraising activities monthly, as requested
  • Liaise with clinical about digital and printed fundraising content, including ‘shopping lists’ and compelling stories about our work
  • Build relationships with companies and their employees in a way that inspires them to give regularly
  • Promote legacies and memorial giving where time allows
  • Operate in accordance with the organisation’s employment, Health and Safety, equal opportunities and other legal requirements, organisational practices, policies and procedures.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by other team members.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Attribute / Essential / Desirable
Experience /
  • Preparing and delivering written fundraising applications and budgets.
  • Creating and developing strong and successful relationships with funders.
  • Two years’ experience of charity fundraising with Trusts and Foundations
  • Demonstrable track record of generating income opportunities
  • Experience of using fundraising databases e.g. ETapestry

  • Corporate fundraising
  • Contributing to the strategic planning and development of the organisation, with a specific focus on the delivery, review and implementation of the fundraising strategy to sustain, diversify and grow the organisation’s income stream.

Knowledge and skills /
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and take the initiative to solve problems
  • Good organisational skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and to balance planned work with more reactive pieces of work that may arise
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and phone manner
  • Computer literate and familiar with using common IT programmes
  • Presentation and public speaking skill

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Strong operational and organisational skills.

Terms and Conditions of employment

Salary: dependent upon experience

Conditions of employment: Part time hours; days and weeks negotiable

Probationary period: This post is subject to a probationary period of six months. There will be a staff review at 6 months and again at 12 months.
