RACE ROUTE

The race starts in Carnethie Street, Rosewell, opposite the bus terminus at the west side of the village and continues westwards, on to the A6094 to Gourlaw crossroads and turns right, heading towards Rosslynlee Hospital, past Gourlaw Farm and turns right again, just before Rosslynlee Hospital road end, at approximately 1.3 miles, and down the hill, just past the 2 mile marker, into Roslin Glen in the shadow of Rosslyn Castle and Rosslyn Chapel to the lowest point in the race.

The following short steep incline for 600 metres takes runners out of Roslin Glen and on to an easier, flatter section of the route on the unclassified road, past the 3 mile marker and on to the junction with the B7006 at 3.75 miles before dropping down through the village of Auchendinny to the bottom of The Brae at 4.25 miles.

Staying on the B7006, the route climbs out of Auchendinny, passing the 5 mile half way marker, just prior to the junction with Harper’s Brae, before turning off to the left and on to the unclassified road which leads the runners back towards Rosewell via Rosslynlee Hospital.

Now on the most rural section of the course, the route undulates for almost two and a half miles on single track and unclassified roads, past Auchendinny Mains and Firth Mains farms, through the grounds of Rosslynlee Hospital and the only water station on the route at 6.5 miles, past Gortonlee Farm, before joining up with the A6094 at Gourlaw crossroads around 7.8 miles. A gentle downhill section follows taking runners along the A6094, before turning off to the right into Carnethie Street, a few hundred metres after the 8 mile marker, and continuing downhill back towards Rosewell village.

Approaching Rosewell, the route turns sharp right off Carnethie Street and down Thornton Road before a gentle incline followed by a sharp left turn at 9 miles and down a short section of unsurfaced access road leading into the grounds of Whitehill House Golf Course. At the bottom of the access road, the route turns right along the private road, past the majestic Whitehill House and continues up the tree lined private road up to the finish just before the junction with Carnethie Street at the east of Rosewell village. The finish is approximately 200 metres from Ferguson Park where changing, showering and toilet facilities will be available. A free post race buffet will be held in the marquee at Ferguson Park for all race entrants.
