History Term Projects

The project is to be focused on an important person or major event within a historical time period

Steps:

1.  Identify a historical time period you will cover

2.  Find a topic that you find interesting, cool, or intriguing that you would like to know more about.

3.  Get it approved

a.  The deadline for the approval of each project is due by midterm of each term – see dates below

4.  Choose an option from below to organize your research.

5.  Write step one of the student reflection

6.  Self-Evaluate using the rubric

7.  Write step two of the student reflection

8.  Hand in your project and graded rubric

9.  Present in class

PROJECT OPTIONS

Timeline:

·  Must determine the significance of historical events within a given time period

·  Must be color coded to reflect political, social, and cultural dates and events within the larger historical time period.

o  Must include 15 political dates and events

o  Must include 15 social and cultural dates events

·  Must include at least 2 hand drawn illustrations per category for a total of 8.

·  Must explain why each event is important and/or significant to the historical time period

·  Must be at least 22 inches in length

·  Must figure out an appropriate scale so everything is spaced out evenly – multiple year events need to be bracketed.

3D Map:

·  Must show events contributing to a larger historical period on a 3D relief map

·  Must portray 10 events within a larger historical time period

·  Include:

o  Where they took place

o  Routes traveled

o  Groups involved

o  Chronologically numbered

o  Provide a legend/key

·  Must include an annotation explaining why each individual event is important and/or significant to the historical time period

Historical Fiction Story:

·  Must be set in a historical time period with a major event or person as the backdrop

·  Must include accurate details of events or people from that period

·  Must be a minimum of 13 pages

o  Typed, double spaced, 12 point font

·  Must include 6 illustrations (no more than a quarter page in size).

·  Must have a title, a cover, and an about the author page.

·  Must be bound (I can help you with that).

Build a 3D Replica:

·  Must include 3 historical items from an event in history

·  Must include a typed annotation explaining the use, impact and contribution to history/society during that historical time period.

·  Must be bigger than a shoebox

Build a 3D Diorama:

·  Must be of a historical landmark or location from a historical time period

·  Must include 5 important components

·  Must include a typed annotation explaining the use, impact and contribution to history and society during that time period.

·  Must be bigger than a shoebox

Research Paper:

·  Must cover a major event or person in a historical time period

o  Include the impact on the historical time period and history as a whole

·  Must be 10 pages

o  Typed, double spaced, 12 point font

·  Must Include 5 visuals no larger than a quarter page in size

·  Must include the “So What” statement write-up (see requirements)

·  NO PLAGARISM! Footnotes must be included and cited.

·  Must submit a hard copy and a digital copy

o  Email this to your teacher with name and class period in the subject line

Annotated Poster:

·  Must be of a major person, landmark, or event from a historical time period

·  Must include 15 annotated pictures

o  Annotation must explain the significance, use, impact and contribution to history and society during that historical time period and history as a whole

o  Pictures can be printed off

Annotated Info Graphic:

·  Must be of a major person, landmark, or event in a historical time period

·  Must include 1 major annotated picture

o  Can be printed off

·  Must include 12 supporting points with pictures

o  Must explain the significance, use, impact and contribution to history and society during that historical time period and history as a whole

·  Must be 12x20

Annotated Drawing:

·  Must be of a historical artifact, monument, event, or person from a historical time period

·  Must be hand drawn on a blank sheet of paper at least 10x12

·  Must include a 3 page write up of the impact on the historical time period and history as a whole.

o  Must explain their significance, how it’s reflective of the time period.

o  Must Include the “So What” statement write-up (see requirements)

o  Must be Typed, double spaced, 12 point font

Pop-up Book for Kids:

·  Must be 16 pages

·  Must have a title and a cover

·  Must be bound

·  Must rewrite a historical event or biography of a person set in the historical time period

·  Must explain the significance, use, impact and contribution to history and society during that historical time period and history as a whole

·  Must include text telling the story in language a 5-7 year old would enjoy and be entertained by

·  Must include hand drawn pictures and captions for each page

o  Pictures must pop-up

Video of an Event:

·  Options:

o  Life before and after

o  Cause and effect

o  Documentary

o  Recreate an event

o  Investigative news cast

o  Change history

§  If you choose this option it must be realistic and feasible given the historical time period, technology and resources available, and knowledge

§  Must include how the changing of this event would not only impact that historical time period but history as a whole

·  Must dress in costume

·  Must act out

·  Must be 10-15 min

·  Must give a firsthand look at a major historical event and its role, impact, and contribution to the historical time period

·  Must explain the significance, impact and contribution to history and society during that time period and to history as a whole

Video Interview:

·  Must recreate someone famous from a historical time period

·  Must identify the person

·  Must dress in costume

·  Must mimic the person

·  Must act out the interview

·  Must be 10-15 min

·  Must give a firsthand look at a major historical figure and their role, impact, and contribution to an event in history

·  Must explain their significance, impact and contribution to history and society during that historical time period and to history as a whole

Newspaper:

·  Newspaper must have a name

·  Must include a Headline Article and write up of a major event in that historical time period

o  Must explain the significance, impact and contribution to history and society during that historical time period and to history as a whole

o  5 W’s

·  Must include two editorials of contrasting someone’s opinion of the time

o  One must be pro the event/person

o  One must be con the event/person

·  Must include an advertisement of a product from the time period

·  Must include at least 5 visuals

o  Authentic prints ok

·  Must be formatted to look like a newspaper

·  Must include a biography or interview of a major player in the event

o  Must give a firsthand look at a major historical figure and their role, impact, and contribution to an event in history

·  Must include a political cartoon

·  Must be equal to 4 pages

·  Must be typed

Requirements:

·  Use at least 5 vocabulary words from the particular unit of study

·  All should have an accompanying “So What” statement that addresses the following:

o  What is the big picture?

o  What is the impact on history?

o  Why does it matter?

o  MUST be at least 8 complete sentences

o  Must be typed, double spaced, 12 point font

·  All visuals must be hand drawn unless indicated otherwise.

·  You must get your project approved prior to midterm of each term

·  You will be graded according to the rubric provided at midterm

·  You must have at least 5 sources for you project, no Wikipedia!!!

o  2 of your sources must be primary sources

o  You must include a works cited page

·  All annotations MUST be cited in the project itself

·  Student reflection must be typed

·  No PowerPoints
