LOCAL OPERATING PROCEDURE / POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION
AND SUPPORT (PBIS) / 1 of 2
  1. PROCEDURES

The procedures outlined in Policy 18.6 will be followed in addition to those outlined below, which supplement the policy:

  1. Program

Macon Youth Development Campus (Macon YDC) and Macon (Girls) Regional Youth Detention Center (Macon (Girls) RYDC) will utilize the Facility Wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (FW-PBIS) developed by the facility’s Leadership Team(see attachment A).

  1. Youth Eligibility

All general population youth will be eligible to participate in the PBIS program. Youth who are housed in the Behavior Management Unit will lose their eligibility and will become eligible again upon completion and transition back into general population.

  1. Youth in A cottage, the Macon (Girls) RYDC, will become eligible for weekly reinforcements 3 days after admission.
  1. Transitional Team

Each youth will be discussed weekly by the transitional team which will consist of the youth’s counselor and information pertaining to these individuals from Education, Security, Recreation, and Mental Health if the youth is on the mental health caseload. Based on each youth’s needs they will be placed in one of three tiers, universal (low-risk), secondary (at-risk), or tertiary (high-risk). The transitional team will discuss the information related to the youth and determine if extra services are needed.

  1. The Assistant Director of Administrative Services is the coordinator of the Macon YDC FW-PBIS program and the RYDC Girls FW-PBIS program.
  1. Staff Training

All staff will be trained on the Macon YDC and Girls RYDC FW-PBIS program during staff orientation by the FW PBIS trainer (Designated Facility Team Member). The FW-PBIS will provide training every quarter for any staff that needs a refresher course.

  1. Youth Training

All youth will receive instructions about facility rules, possible sanctions for violating the rules, and the FW-PBIS program during orientation by the Admission and Orientation JDC/SST.

  1. Staff Support

All staff will support the FW-PBIS program and the behavior management program through the consistent and fair application of rewards and penalties. FW-PBIS is a team approach and it depends on everyone in order to work effectively. There are staff reinforcements as part of the FW-PBIS program (see attachment A).
