The Principles for the Organic Livestock Productions

At the beginning of the organic agriculture in Thailand most of Thai people knew to grow only organic jasmine rice. In order to stimulate exportation there were many private companies and organization entities to promote for exportation jasmine rice and some organic crops such as corn, asparagus, green sorrel etc. Many people misunderstand that the organic products have been produced for only exportation and have only the organic crops. However, if the farmers grow the organic crops and raise pets, the natural resources such as crops, vegetables, fruits etc. will be worthily used. We can use crops for feeding pets and pets’ manures can recycle to be the organic fertilizer for crops. So, the organic livestock is very appropriate for the farmers and integrated farming in Thailand. Using the plant resources and proper raising pets can build the stability for the country. However, the organic livestock in Thailand cannot be compared with the intensive organic livestock system to sell organic meat, milk and egg as the Biofarm in the developed countries such as America, Europe and Australia. These countries have large farm and many areas, so the farmers can produce entire food in farm. The organic livestock in Thailand is appropriate with raising pets in backyard of house and product system in the small community. The Kinds of Livestock Having High Opportunities for Developing to be Organic Livestock Products

  1. Meat, milk and egg fed in the commercial farms such as broiler, chicken egg, Thai-

France beef and dairy castle (meat, milk and egg) are the products often found that there is chemical residue in the products which are very dangerous for the consumers. The production in the organic system is the way to add the higher value for the products. So, at the beginning the herbs and natural biology should be used instead of using the chemicals which are antibiotic growth promotersand feed additives. The research supports that the herb and natural biology can help to develop these products to be the organic livestock until the products can be certified.

2. The organic livestock for self-reliance in the community such as chicken and pig made a group to produce the products leading to the standard organic livestock production and networking for selling products in the community and city is very necessary to find the market for classification products for particular target group.

3. The castle fed by the crofters is the part supporting to produce the complete organic products using pets’ manure for making the organic fertilizers for crops such as rice, vegetable and fruits. The castle fed in the natural places where do not use the chemicalshas the automatic organic pets. However, if it needs to transform castle into some organic meat, it must be obtained the certificate from the agencies.

There are many kinds of Thai organic products which are high exporting potentiality.

The information inthe year 2007 was reported that the most Thai organic products could export to many countries were68% of jasmine rice,12% of vegetable, 8% of fruit, 8% of tea and 4 % of herb and other products respectively. Thai organic products which had very high opportunities for exportation were organic rice and rice products especially the organic jasmine rice. The most of jasmine rice 96% had been produced for exportation and it was the products which were required for the markets in Europe. Finding from the survey in 2007 found that Thailand had the largest areas in the world for growing the organic jasmine rice and later Philippine, Italy, the United States and Pakistan etc. Other Thai organic products could export were rice crackers, rice milk etc. The organic shrimp was the policy of the department of fishery to reproduce the organic aquatic animals even more. The department reproduced these three organic aquatic animals which were black tiger shrimp, Litopenaeus Vannamei shrimp and Gourami fish. The organic shrimps which are available in the markets have frozen shrimp, chilled shrimp and shrimp for cooking. Thai entrepreneurs are capable to reproduce the organic aquatic animals especially the organic sea shrimp until the farms have been certified as the international organic standard. The organic black tiger shrimps are very popular and required for the markets in Europe. Thai organic livestock which has high potentiality to expand the exportation market is processed chicken and processed pork etc. Most Thai organic fruits which can export are tropical fruits such as banana, pineapple, mango, rambutan, durian, lychee and jackfruit etc. The largest market for these fruits is in Europe. The organic processed fruits which can export are dried fruits, fruit juice, can fruit, etc. Most Thai organic vegetables can export are salad, vegetable can have root and tuber such as carrot, tomato, other vegetable etc. Most markets are in Europe. Furthermore, there are organic ingredients, herb, tea and coffee etc. can be export to many countries.

The Indicator Standard of Organic Products

At the present it does not have standard for organic products. The former time the standard for organic products had been developed the private association allowed the members marked “ORGANIC PRODUCTS”. Later the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM) drafted the guideline for production the organic products until it has been widely accepted by the most people. The standard of IFOAM is a minimum standard for the production organic products which each country has details of different standard. However, every country has the same principles which are the soil and fertilizer must not contain with the chemical residues. If it needs to use the natural extract, these must not be dangerous for health and environment.
