The Dardanup Clydesdale & Heavy Horse working show carries on centuries of tradition from the UK in Australia by awarding horse brasses to winners of working harness events. All brasses are made in the Worcestershire, UK with most moulds and designs being over 100 years old. As well as being a great collector’s item, the winner hopefully will display the brass with pride on the martingale of your winning horse at future working shows and parades.

All the sport horses have a chance of winning the Matilda Part Bred Perpetual Trophy for the partbred Clydesdale horse with the most points from breed & working harness.

All supreme Champions will be invited to compete in the Supreme of the Supreme Dardanup Clydesdale and Heavy Horse breed show. The winner will receive the Presidents Dardanup CCHS WA Supreme of the Supreme Trophy
Other Breeds not listed will be advised before the day to which group number they are.
Working harness Saturday [after led classes]
Ridden Heavy horses, sport horse, cross /part bred, reg/unregistered
Ridden Hack
1 - To show the heavy horse as a ridden versatile horse. Demonstrate a walk, trot,and canter. Winner & placed receive ribbons and points go towards the Rex Newbold Trophy.
2-More advanced to show that the heavy horse/part/cross can excel not only at the trot, canter, walk, back, but also can be rode through parts of the obstacle course as well.
Carry 2 mail bags through 4 drums, over canvas, weave through poles, and step over logs, side pass over logs, deposit mail bags on drum and finish through flags.
Ribbons 1st, 2nd,3rd,Points go towards the Rex Newbold Trophy. The Same horse and rider finishing with the most points from ridden 1& 2 receive a horse brass

3 - Junior driver --judged on driver. Age8 to 18 years old. Horse must be driven in long reins, harness optional. Judge will give a critique on each junior’s skills. Walk on, Back, Drivers skills .As judge directs.
4 - Maiden Horse— horse never won a first place at a working show, judged on horse. Horse must be driven in long reins, harness optional and as Judge directs
5 - Novice - Driver. Drivernever won an event at a working show, harness optional, horsemust be driven in long reinsjudged on handler, as judge directs
Sunday 1ST JUNE 8-30am start
6 – Intermediate Horse. Horse must be driven in long lines, harness is optional.
A test of all skills which the judge feels adequate that the horse and driver can be competitive in open class? The horse and driver must be confident and the skill tests are a combination of walk, back, halt, and the driver’s ability to drive and control the horse. Other skill tests as directed by judge. Any horse that has won an open event at a CCHS WA or Western Australian Agriculture show cannot enter this intermediate class.
7– Open Horse-- judged on handler and horse, horse must be driven in long lines, harness optional. Walk on , Back , Halt , weave through cones , side pass left, side pass right , could involve driving one handed in given pattern.Skill tests as judge directs.
8 ---- Obstacle driven singlehorsemust be driven in long lines, harness optional, timed event. Around cones, drums, over canvas, water crossing, over rubber covered bridge, through plastic curtains, bunting, past flags. Two points lost for a refusal, one point lost for knocking over drum or cone. Timed event if there are horses finishing on equal points and time the obstacles may be altered.Drivers are not allowed to adjust, alter or assist the horse by moving harness or chains till course completed. Dropping lines, 3 refusals at the same obstacle disqualifies from 1st 2nd 3rd places. 1 point lost for dragging lines on ground and wrong way through obstacle. The obstacle course will be explained on Saturday 31st May to all entrants.
9 – LOG Snig single horse
Horse must be driven in long lines. Harness is optional. Entrants to be Judged and marked on THE FOLLOWING RULES
Drivers are not allowed to adjust, alter, assist the horse by moving harness or chains once course is started till horse and driver have finished course.
Judge may measure chains to check that minimum length is correct
Log Snig, single horse
Log measurements ------3 metres long x 200cm x 100cm approx.
Swingle tree------33ins min width
Chain length from hames to swing hook, ------2.34 metres
Minimum Chain from swing to log if used ------400 minimum
Rope on the ground marks the boundary posts with cricket or such like balls a top.
Course set in a rectangle 22 metres x 7 metres.
4 post at 4 metres apart the first post being 5 metres from start line. The last post being 5 metres from boundary line. With posts 3.5 metres from each side boundary.
Knocking off ball ------1 point
knocking post on ground --- 1 point if post is left on a lean, 2 points touching the ground.
Handler stepping on log ------1 point
Handlers foot is not allowed to keep log away from post ----- disqualified.
Handler or horse stepping on or over boundary line ------1 point each foot.
Driving lines touching the log or lines dropped on ground----- disqualified from a place but encouraged to finish.
Any horse which experiences difficulty IE: all feet over boundary line, or require help should be encouraged to finish but will not be placed in the 1-2-3 positions, this is to encourage the handler and horse to gain experience.
After first round if any horses finish with same amount of points, the width of rectangle will be reduced by .250 from each of the longer sides.
If after this there are horses on equal points, the event will be timed.
All horses should be of neat appearance. Please make sure that the plough hook to go on swing hook is of sufficient size to fit over 10MM/ half inch steel rod

10- Log Snig Obstacle
Horse driven in longlinesthrough and over various obstacles. This is a timed event.Start at flag. Drive horse to gate, open gate then proceed to turning area to hook up log [swing is already attached, no help given. One pointlost if horse moves out of area while gearing up. Proceed through gate between fallen logs. Drive through drums. Drive through long logs points.Drive back to turning area and unhook log, close gate, then drive through start flags to finish. The turning are is 15 metres x 10 metres.One point is lost for every time the log or swing touches drums, logs, refuses to proceed through the obstacle, steps out of marked area.
11 - Working farm implement of earth digging type
Any earth digging implement and harness must suit horse and implement..When in the ring the groom may stand in front of the horse but points will be deducted if the groom excessively handles the horse or adjusts the harness

12 – Parade of horse drawn implements Please state on entry form if you are interested in this event and your horse is capable of pulling a farm implement.Points are not awarded to this parade but horses will be given a horse shield.
13- Trade and Delivery vehicle
Vehicle 20, horse and harness 40,horse must stand patiently while driver’s assistant is making a delivery 20, finish by backing horse 3 steps 10 points,when in the ring the groom may stand in front of the horse, points will be deducted if groom excessively and constantly handled the horse or adjusts the harness
14Driven Single Axle. Harness to suit vehicle, manners throughout the class 20, Soundness 20. Back 3 steps 20 .Halt 20.General workout as judge directs 20 points When in the ring the groom may stand in front of the horse, points will be deducted if groom excessively and constantly handled the horse or adjusts the harness
15 – Driven Double Axle Vehicle
Vehicle turnout and harness to suit vehicle 40, manners and soundness 20. . General workout as judge directs 40 points. When in the ring the groom may stand in front of thehorse, points will be deducted if groom excessively and constantly handled the horse or adjusts the harness

The CCHS WA welcomes Mr. Ian Stewart –Koster from Qld.
We look forward to listening and sharing Ian’s wealth of experience and knowledge off heavy horses. Not only known for his restoration of carts, carriages and his ability to paint decorative designs and scrolls on all horse drawn vehicles but his ability as a judge and worker of the heavy horse both in breed and working harness. Ian will give a short talk on topics such as
Beginner’s advice, starting off with your Clydesdale
Breed standards and faults of the Clydesdale horse
Starting a horse to pull a log or carriage
Demonstrate harnessing a horse to pull a carriage.
Correct shafts and height of axles to match both horse and carriage

This Clinic is of special interest to all heavy horse owners and those that own cross/part breed heavy horse or those people who are interested in the Heavy Horse.
There will be soup/sausage bred roll etc at the canteen available. Please reserve your place as numbers are limited and we require an idea of attendance for the caterers.
A gold coin donation will be appreciated if attending.

Breed & Working Harness information.
We reserve the right to make alterations to the program if circumstances demand.
Harness Entrants. – ALLOCATED NUMBERS: to be worn and be visible so that Judges, Stewards and the Public can identify competitors and horses. Entrants MUST display their numbers when competing. The lowest number being called first in a class event. Numbers will be drawn at the Henty Ladies Riding club Wednesday 22nd May.PLEASE return numbers at end of show. All numbers not returned will cost the user $10-00.
Please bring with you your chains of minimum length [check event details log snig/ obstacle log snig] Make sure the hooks can fit over 10mm steel
All stallions must wear bitted bridles when in the show grounds.
All harness is optional but all harnessed horses entering any event will be checked before entry to show ring by the safety adviser and if the harness is found to be unsafe and considered by the safety adviser to be worn and need of repair the entrant will not be allowed entry to compete in that event until the harness has been adjusted, repaired or replaced.
All driven carriage horse must be bitted for insurance purposes.
If you have not exhibited your horse without Winkers/blinkers at a CCHS WA working harness show you must be tested. Please arrange before the show note on entry forms.
The horse number nominated for perpetual points must be worn when driving pairs or multiples in events and highlighted on entry form.
All horses or drivers including junior drivers who have never entered a working harness show, or not shown their horse at a CCHS WA working show for more than 2 years must be safety tested by a minimum of 2 committee members one preferably the safety adviser [see general rules]. Please arrange with the organisers to check your horse preferably the day before.
Novice refers to handler who has not won an event at a working harness show.
Maiden refers to horse that has never won an event at a working harness show.
All horses that enter led classes must be registered with the relevant breed society please provide a copy of the registration with your entry.
Working harness heavy horse classes are open to registered/unregistered heavy horses which must be of heavy horse type, send photo if you have not shown at a CCHS WA show before.
Please arrange to have your horse tested well before the show [contact the secretary] we don’t want delays in to programme.

Camping
Dardanup Equestrian Gates open Friday 9-00am. By arrangements can be opened earlier for competitors who wish to arrive Thursday.
Stalls for stallions must be booked on entry form.
Please clean out your stalls before you leave.
Camping is available with full facilities in the Dardanup Equestrian Centre
Use of the kitchen, showers and toilet are there for all competitors and supporters, please keep them clean and turn the light of after use.
Camping single $5-00 per night. - Family $10-00 per night.
Please place your requirement for camping on your entry form.
Electric leads must carry a current up to date safety tag.
Dogs – Sorry no dogs for insurance and legal reasons – NO DOGS
