JOB DESCRIPTION FOR POST OF:- SUPERVISORY ASSISTANT (LUNCHTIME)
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The postholder must at all times carry out his/her responsibilities within the spirit of the City Council’s Policies and Procedures, in particular the Council Policies on Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety and also, within the framework of the Education Act 1996 and Employment Law.

To work as part of a team supervising pupils during the lunch break, which includes attending to their welfare and domestic needs. Accountable to the Senior Team. Duties include the following, and such other duties as required by the Senior Team within the broad terms outlined.

  1. Supervision of pupils before, during and after the midday meal. This includes provision for children who bring sandwiches.
  1. Supervision of hand washing and toileting.
  1. Supervision of pupils’ entry and exit from the dining area, including any journey to the dining room.
  1. Undertaking dining room duties:
  • Serving food
  • Assisting pupils to cut / eat food as necessary
  • Assisting pupils in the proper use of cutlery and maintaining appropriate behaviour
  • Assistance with clearing plates / cutlery and wiping up of spillages on the table and on the floor as they occur
  1. Supervision of pupils in the playground to include being vigilant in the playground in recognising potential dangers and approaching unauthorised personnel who enter the premises
  1. Engaging in children’s play
  1. Arranging emergency treatment when required, e.g. calling for a member of staff if there has been an accident, meeting the needs of sick children.
  1. Participation in training opportunities as agreed.
  1. Adhering to Centre policies and procedures.
  1. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities, which do not change the character and purpose of the post as may be determined after negotiations between management, the postholder and the appropriate trade union.
