JOB TITLE:ASSISTANT SENCO
REPORT TO:SENCO – Assistant Headteacher
GRADE:KR 7
PURPOSE:To assist the SENCO in the day to day management of learning support assistants and the organisation of the Special Needs Department. To work with teachers and other support staff, to promote the learning and welfare of students by providing practical teaching and learning support to students, including those with special needs, under the guidance of the relevant line manager.
Responsibilities include:
- To be responsible for the induction and training of learning support assistants.
- To assist in the planning and management of timetables of learning support assistants and deal with day to day changes.
- To assist the SENCO in reviewing the performance of support staff on an annual basis
- To prepare reports needed for annual reviews for EHCP students.
- To carry out administration tasks as directed by the SENCO.
- To work with the relevant teaching staff to plan, monitor and evaluate pupils’ learning, ensuring that progress is clearly recorded and relates to the learning objectives for each student.
- To provide support to students , work with groups on pre-planned activities and carry out intervention classes and mentoring/coaching
- To work with EHCP students providing individual assistance, devising strategies and drawing up and implementing action plans, to maximise their achievement, by overcoming behavioural, physical or learning difficulties.
- To assist in the writing of regular reports and reviews of student progress; to assist with the general administration of records.
- To undertake all duties in line with school policies, including those of race equality, equality of opportunity and raising achievement.
- To undertake training as appropriate.
- To undertake any other duties as directed by the line manager, in keeping with the nature of this post.
