The PomeloTown – BIOGRAPHIES

The PomeloTown is one of Thailand’s leading Jazz Groups consisting of Jazz Faculties from the College of Music, MahidolUniversity. Over times, the band has been famous for its energetic performance of jazz repertoire of various styles. Apart from performing at major national and international jazz events, the band has also recorded a jazz album entitled Chasin’ Saengrawee in 2006.

Mr. Krit Buranavitayawut - Saxophone
Krit Buranavitayawut received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Silpakorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He has been working in both music and architectural fields for many years with his strong belief that every kind of arts is united into one. He joined College of Music, MahidolUniversity as a full-time faculty member since 1999. His duties include teaching jazz saxophone, jazz theory, jazz pedagogy and coaching jazz combos. Krit ’s other duties include planning and equipping educational music facilities for College of Music, and Bhumibol Sankeet Building construction project management.
As the first-call bebop saxophonist, he has appeared in many jazz festivals and jazz concerts, leads William’s Jazz Band for more than ten years. A member of Mahidol University Jazz Faculty Ensemble, he has recorded the CDs: Music of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Celebrating Jazz concert. He has formed a jazz group named The Pomelo Town, with Darin Pantoomkomol, Noppadol Tirataradol, Teerapoj Plitakul, Chanutr Techatananant, Kom Wongsawat, and the group’s first record, Chasin’ Sangrawee, was released in 2006.
Krit Buranavitayawut was a former member of the Bangkok Saxophone Quartet that has performed and recorded two CDs: Falling Rain,and Plaeng Sib Song Phasa. Guest performing artist with Mr. Monthien Buntun for the contemporary art exhibition “Shape of The Sound Project” at Nasunogahra Harmony Hall, Ohtawara, Japan(1999). He has also performed with The Bangkok Saxophone Quintet at the 2003 World Saxophone Congress XIII in Minneapolis, USA, with Thailand Saxophone Ensemble at the 2006 World Saxophone Congress XIV in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Krit has appeared as a soloist with Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO), and has recorded the CD: National Music - King’s Composition.
Krit Buranavitayawut is currently the Deputy Director for Administration and Head of Jazz Studies Program at College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand.
Noppadol Tirataradol, Double Bass
Noppadol received a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in Visual Arts from ChiangmaiUniversity and Master of Fine Arts Degree in Musicology from MahidolUniversity. A self-taught jazz bassist, he has been active in the jazz scene for over a decade, including his performance at the 13th Annual Asian Games (1998), Hua-Hin Jazz Festival 2004 with “All Star Jazz Band”, featuring saxophonist Peter King, and many others.
Apart from jazz music, Noppadol has performed in several concerts to present the performance of ‘Conceptual Music’, in which he has a strong interest, including a Solo Work "B5. NEVOHTEEB" at Chiangmai University (1996), "Five Musicians Five Composers" at Taepae Gate, Chiangmai (1997), "Sonata Visualization" at Chiangmai University (1997), Music performed with the White Face Theatre Group, Cultural Center, Bangkok (1998), Noise of Art I "Appear Disappear", Cultural Center, Bangkok (2001), and Noise of Art II "Measurable Ummeasurable", Cultural Center, Bangkok (2002),to name a few.
As a recording artist/musician, he releases two albums with Mahidol University Faculty Jazz Ensemble, namely "Music of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej" (with Denny Euprasert and Krit Buranavitayawut in 1999, and "Celebrating Jazz concert" with Dan Phillips, Denny Euprasert and Krit Buranavitayawut (2002).
Currently, Noppadol Tirataradol is an Instructor of Jazz Bass at Mahidol University College of Music.

Darin Pantoomkomal, Piano
Born in 1971, Darin Pantoomkomal began studying piano at the age of 8 and guitar at the age of 9. He graduated with a Bachelor and Master of Business Administration from ChulalongkornUniversity, Bangkok, Thailand, and the University of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, respectively. Since his primary school days, Darin has had a strong interest in music, especial in the style of jazz. Accordingly, Darin started his first professional gig as a pianist at the age of 14, while studying in grade nine.
As a performing musician, Darin has played with several international jazz musicians such as trumpeters Terumasa Hino, Tiger Okoshi, Kelly Rossum, Saxophonist Peter King, Vocalist Angelita Li, and Guitarist Eugene Pao, among others. Additionally, his various other musical interests has keep Darin active in Bangkok’s mainstream music scene. Currently, he also enjoys his career on mainstream music composing/arranging, film music production, and studio musician.

Darin Pantoomkomol has been a featured performer in many jazz festival, concerts and educational workshops, including Heineken Jazz Festival (Bangkok, Thailand), Hau Hin Jazz Festival (Hua Hin, Thailand), and Ufa Jazz Master, (Ufa, Russia)
Currently, Darin Pantoomkomol is an instructor of Jazz Piano, Jazz Guitar, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Improvisation at the College of Music, MahidolUniversity. Besides, he plays regularly with the Bamboo Bar Jazz Quartet at the Oriental Hotel’s Bamboo Bar, where he performs for several high profile jazz singers, including Cherryl Hayes, Alice Days, Cynthia Utterbach, Denise Thimes, and many others.

Kom Wongsawat – Drums
Kom Wongsawat started his classical piano lessons at the age of six. H?s strong interest in jazz during his high school days brough him to his formal jazz education at the College of Music, Mihidol University. While at MahidolUniversity, Kom studied jazz piano with Denny Euprasert. Furthermore, Kom also took jazz piano lessons with several other great musicians such as Danilo Perez, Randy Cannon, Taurey Butler, Dan Phillips, and Shuichi Komiyama, etc. During his stydy at MahidolUniversity, Kom started to perform professionally with a leading jazz band “Arnon’s Jazz Band” at Saxophone Pub, one of the leading jazz rooms in Thailand.
Kom also has his strong interest in the art of jazz rhythm, which made him started to take on jazz drumsets seriously. He started to take private jazz drum lessons with Shawn Kelly and Chanutr Techatananant.
During the past few years, Kom has won several music competition in Thailand, Wining the “Best Keyboard Player 2005” by Overdrive Magazine, “Best Outstanding Keyboard” in the Thailand Jazz Competition 2006, and his band received First Prizes from many Jazz Band Competitions (As a pianist and drummer).
As a jazz performer, Kom has performed in various jazz festival with several international renowned jazz artists, including Sadao Watanabe and David Sanborn, to name a few.
Currently, Kom Wongsawat is a full time jazz faculty member of The Jazz Department, College of Music, MahidolUniversity.
