IN MONTANA, BULGARIA

6th October-11th October 2014

THE PLANET IN OUR HANDS

Our partners’ groups from Slovenia, Hungary, Turkey, Poland and Romania arrived on 6th of October for the 4th meeting on the project “The Planet in Our Hands”. They were welcomed warmly and hosted by their Bulgarian friends and families.

On 7th October Monday we took our guests sight-seeing Montana. The Bulgarian students guided our partners to the Theater “Dragomir Asenov” , The Gallery, The Lapidarium, The Church and the city center. At lunch we greeted our dear friends at school with a concert. Folklore groups sang and danced, the school brass band performed Bulgarian and world famous melodies.

After the concert the teams from all the parting groups presented their work and results till the meeting in Montana and the teachers discussed the planning, activities and evaluation of the project.

On the 8th October we went to the Hydro electrical station at the foot of the dam wall “Ogosta”, near Montana. We were shown and explained how electricity is produced with the power of water. Then our trip went on with a visit to the Magura cave – one of the most beautiful in Bulgaria and panoramic view to the Belogradchik Rocks. The students were enchanted by the scenery so they took many nice pictures. Later we climbed the Fortress of Belogradchik, where we learned facts about the Bulgarian history and heard legends and stories about the rocks .

9th October was a day for a trip to Sofia. We wanted to show our guest the beautiful capital of Bulgaria. Our guided tour started from the Cathedral St. “Alexander Nevsky”, the Building of the Parliament, The ruins of the Roman Fortress, The Rothonda, The change of the Guard at the Presidency and finished at The National Theatre”Ivan Vasov”. In the afternoon we went to the Botanical garden where students and teachers were bewitched by the colourful flowers.

The last day -10th October was very busy with a lot of activities. In the morning we visited the lab of the Regional Inspectorate of the Environment and Waters in Montana for seeing some experiments with water and a presentation about protected environmental areas and reserves in North-West Bulgaria. Later all the participants of the project were warmly welcomed by the mayor Zlatko Zhivkov.

In the afternoon we went back to school for final work on the project. The Bulgarian students delivered presentation “Energetics” and the students from the parting countries answered a questionnaire about saving energy. The students were divided into international teams and created posters. In this way they expressed their ecological views on protecting the planet. We finished the workshop with a common art message – the planet is in our hands!

In the evening we had to say Goodbye to our partners and look forward to the next meeting in Romania.
