It is held on the night of the full moon, on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese calendar, which normally falls in September or early October on the Western calendar. The Mid-Autumn Festival symbolises three vital elements in Chinese culture: gathering with loved ones, giving thanks for the harvest and praying to the Moon God for longevity and good fortune.
