The opportunity: Are you are looking to build on a strong existing fundraising base andmake your mark? The Redwood is a high-impact organization and under the leadership of a new Executive Director is ready to reinvigorate its existing philanthropy program. It has and established fundraising program, a strong infrastructure that can be scaled up and an enthusiastic Executive Director, willing to be involved in fundraising.

Projected to raise approximately $600,000 in the coming year, The Redwood hasa traditional philanthropy mix with a strong focus ondirect marketing, as well as foundation grant writing, corporate giving and special events with potential for leadership gift giving and bequest giving.

The Organization:Since 1993, The Redwood has been helping women and children live free from domestic violence. Free from fear. Free from threat.

Leaving an abusive situation is one of the toughest things any woman or child has to face. The Redwood provides the emotional, practical and social support that families need to get their lives back on track, including:

  • Programs like art and play therapy, counselling and after school tutoring to help children and youth rebuild their self-esteem, and break the cycle of violence.
  • On-going support to help women build confidence and self-reliance through employment readiness training, assistance in finding affordable housing, and opportunities to pursue post-secondary education.
  • Assistance to women and children trapped in an abusive home through outreach visits and educational workshops at local schools, libraries, housing co-ops, churches, mosques, and other community gathering places.

You’re the ideal candidate if:

  • You can both adapt and contribute to an organization that is aiming for growth.
  • As a versatile fundraising generalist, you have a track record of securing major or leadership gifts, managing annual appeals, events, stewardship, grant writing, and communications. You write well and have a working knowledge of using technology in support of a revenue generation program.
  • You are able to communicate effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person, by email, via digital media and over the phone. You also write well.
  • You have the ability to both think strategically and execute tactics.
  • You have a history of demonstrating fundraising best practices, while also being innovative and creative.
  • You understand the importance of relationship building and have demonstrated success in doing so.
  • You can point to your success being donor-focussed, anticipating and responding to donor needs.
  • You understand the fundraising landscape, including the regulatory framework.
  • You understand that leadership includes following as well as leading and the importance of learning from those with skills and competencies different than yours.
  • You have demonstrated success in achieving goals and are a self-motivator. You’re able to work collaboratively and motivate and understand the need to inspire both staff and volunteers to achieve great things.
  • You work effectively as a member of a small team and are willing to pitch in and carry out all levels of the task at hand.
  • You are decisive, able to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make timely, clear decisions which are in the best interests of the organization.
  • You’re a problem solver, able to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.
  • You have a related post-secondary degree and/or equivalent combination of other education and work experience; and at least 5 years related experience as a fundraising professional.
  • You are curious; committed to life-long learning and professional development.
  • You have a good sense of humour. You take your work seriously, but not yourself.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning and evaluation:

  • Working collaboratively with the Executive Director, develop comprehensivefundraisingstrategies and plans to build fundraising revenues, achieve annual goals and support The Redwood’s mission
  • Develop and execute an evaluation framework for the fundraising program and update senior leadership regularly

Individual Giving:

  • Lead the planning and execution ofThe Redwood’sdirect marketing campaign which includes traditional direct mail, on-line and a robust monthly giving program thanks to door-to-door campaigns
  • ExecuteThe Redwood’s Planned Giving program
  • Develop and execute a leadership giving program

Corporate Giving:

  • Identify, research and, with volunteer leadership,support effective solicitation of corporate prospects for sponsorship and philanthropic support

Foundation Giving:

  • Lead the foundation portfolio: prospect research, application submission, tracking and post-grant reporting

Stewardship, Communications & Volunteers:

  • Develop an annual communications plan and participate in and oversee its execution
  • Work closely with the Donor Relations Coordinator to developand execute stewardship plans and activities related to donor recognition and donor relations

In Addition:

  • Develop creative new ideas to complement and/or build on existing fundraising assets
  • Adhere to standards of ethical fundraising (AFP, Imagine Canada), industry best practice and The Redwood fundraising policies
  • Perform other duties, as required

Scope & Accountabilities:

The Redwood fundraising team (Board of Directors, ED, Fundraising Manager, fundraising volunteers) will work closely together and withtheDonor Relations Coordinator.

The incumbent will work with Cathy Mann of Cathy Mann & Associates who is currently working with The Redwood in support of its philanthropy program

Computer Skills:

•Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher or similar program

•E-Tapestry or similar online fundraising/events management program

•Familiarity with basic financial administration is an asset (QuickBooks)

Reports to: Executive Director

Schedule: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week) Occasional evening and weekend work when required

Compensation:

  • Salary is $64,958.40
  • Access to single coverage of health and dental benefits, and employee assistance program
  • 5 weeks’ vacation
